Stadtwerke Schüttorf-Emsbüren enters into new cooperation in the fiber optic sector
Epcan from Vreden takes over provider tasks for commercial customers in Schüttorf and EmsbürenStadtwerke Schüttorf-Emsbüren has entered into a new cooperation in the fiber optic sector. Epcan GmbH from Vreden will take over the provider tasks for commercial customers from Stadtwerke from September 1. "The business area is simply too small for us and we are delighted to have found a strong partner in Epcan," say SWSE Managing Directors Hartmut Klokkers and Daniel Kollbach. Stadtwerke had previously withdrawn from provider activities for private customers as part of its cooperation with Grafschafter Breitband and its provider "net services". Now they are also handing over their services for business and corporate customers. For example in the Schüttorf industrial area. "When we built the fiber optic network there, we ensured that the companies had fast Internet early on with our business services," says Kollbach, who is jointly responsible for the area as Technical Managing Director. However, it is only a small division within the company: Stadtwerke currently serves around 85 commercial customers in Schüttorf and Emsbüren. "Many of them are also gas and electricity customers and we were looking for a partner who, as a specialist, can offer better and cheaper services than we can," emphasizes Kollbach.
Epcan, which was founded in 2008 and employs around 70 people, is already heavily involved in the region. "We have around 30,000 private and business customers in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia and are also represented in all neighboring districts, but not yet in the county," reports Gerd Gevering, Managing Director of Epcan GmbH. This will change on September 1. However, the technical infrastructure will remain the same. The municipal utilities will continue to own the fiber optic networks, but they will lease their network to Epcan. There will also be a division of tasks in the collaboration. "We will continue to be responsible for everything that happens underground, while Epcan will be the new contact for everything above ground," explains Klokkers.
