"BIG IDEAS FOR ECZEMA RESEARCH CHALLENGE" WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Three parents of children with eczema win top prizes for their innovative ideas for research based on their "lived experience".Santa Barbara, CA, May 23, 2024 - Global Parents for Eczema Research is pleased to announce the winners of its annual "Big Ideas for Eczema Challenge", a global contest that rewards patients and their caregivers for their novel ideas for eczema research. The goal is to improve the understanding of eczema, accelerate the development of new treatments, and promote prevention strategies.
The following three stand-out ideas were chosen by a panel of experts as the winners of the 2024 Challenge:
First Place: Cold Atmospheric Plasma Therapy as a treatment for secondary prevention of eczema by Dana Bishop a caregiver to a child with eczema in the UK
Second Place: Systematic removal of synthetic detergents from the home to prevent eczema submitted by AJ Lumsdaine a caregiver to a child with eczema in the USA
Third Place: Traditional Chinese Medicine topical formulation for eczema by Christine Hui Caregiver to a child with eczema in the USA.
The international panel of 9 judges included physicians, researchers, patients, and caregivers who conducted a comprehensive review of the top ideas and chose the winners based on scoring criteria that assessed innovation and novelty, patient-centeredness, scientific merit, clarity, and quality of the idea.
"This year's participants were from all over the globe and the creativity and novelty of the ideas was exceptional," said Korey Capozza, Executive Director of Global Parents for Eczema Research. "It's clear that those living with eczema and their caregivers hold invaluable insights that can drive meaningful advancements in eczema treatment and prevention. We are excited to see how these innovative ideas will contribute to the field."
