"Data provider" for automation systems with COSCOM and the store floor ECO system

The trend towards comprehensive digitalization now goes beyond the mere connection of machining centers to work preparation. It also addresses the networking of accompanying processes, such as tool set-up with storage processes, assembly, measurement and provision at the machines. The aim is to close gaps in data logistics with a view to the store floor, to fully enable consistency from the ERP system to the machine and also to connect automation systems bidirectionally. All necessary production documents and control data, such as article information, drawings, photos, NC programs, etc., should be transferred to the store floor as a digital data stream in line with the versioned article status. Current process data on tools should not only be visualized for the worker at the machine control system on site, but should also be able to flow back digitally into a central data platform. And this is precisely what the COSCOM ECO system Connected Shopfloor makes possible, as Christian Erlinger, Managing Director of COSCOM Computer GmbH from Ebersberg, explains: "Our digital workbook, with all the relevant information and data, can not only be accessed by the worker at the INFO-Point on site directly at the machine, but can also be used directly by the automation systems around the CNC machine tool for automatic processing. The COSCOM ECO system Connected Shopfloor acts as a central "data provider" and supports the setup process logistically by providing all tool information, NC programs and additional production information specific to the target system. In the open COSCOM data platform, production data is recorded once and maintained centrally. As a result, there is no risk of data redundancy or even data loss.
Comprehensive solutions for process automation
The mechanization of the loading and unloading of CNC lathes, milling machines and complete machining centers is advancing because these valuable capital goods need to be productive for as long as possible and operate with as little downtime as possible. However, automation must fit like a tailor-made suit - especially for a manufacturing company with all its individually designed processes on the store floor. This is why the process design professional COSCOM also integrates automation systems that have modern digital communication options, such as DMG, Soflex, Fastems, Erowa and many more. The aim is to always be able to offer a state-of-the-art digitalization and networking concept for the respective automation solution. "COSCOM offers an accompanying process that is optimally supported by data technology for the all-important set-up process on the CNC machine. This ensures that all operating resources, NC programs and technologies are available in the correct form and version on the machine for machining. We also ensure this if a company opts for a fully automated solution, for example with a placement robot," says Christian Erlinger, summarizing the benefits of the solution.
Secure, bidirectional data communication for stable workflows
In practice, this means that a company decides to implement a new automation system. COSCOM networks all store floor components into an overall process solution through optimum data interaction. The turnkey handover is carried out by professional project management including customer-specific interface design. The COSCOM database platform secures and manages the often enormous volumes of data generated in a central data pool and is the "data provider" that the automation systems can actively use. The result of the connection is predictable processes and reliable workflows thanks to seamless data consistency. The currently valid NC programs are available for the right technologies and equipment. In addition, the COSCOM database platform is also a "data recipient" from the automation systems in the sense of bidirectional communication. In this way, automation systems can autonomously initiate accompanying processes, e.g. tool provision in the event of tool breakage or when wear limits are reached, or store current, optimized data for job repetition in the ECO system in an audit-proof manner.
