Study confirms effectiveness of edupression.com® as a digital health application for depressive patients
Vienna, March 18, 2024 - A new study, called eFICASY, has demonstrated the effectiveness of the digital health application (DiGA) edupression.com® in mild to moderate unipolar depressed patients. The randomized controlled trial, which was conducted over a 12-week period, showed a significant improvement in depression severity and health literacy in participants using edupression.com®.The results of the eFICASY study show that the therapeutic effects of edupression.com® are maintained even with the simultaneous use of antidepressants or psychotherapy, which indicates that edupression.com® can be used both as a monotherapy and as an add-on therapy in everyday clinical practice.
The study was registered in the German Clinical Trials Registry and ClinicalTrials.gov. The study involved 250 participants aged 18 to 65 years who were randomized in a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group received the DiGA edupression.com®, while the control group received an ineffective sham treatment through an identical-looking digital application. Both groups could also receive standard treatment with medication and/or psychotherapy.
The eFICASY study showed significant benefits of the edupression.com® group over the control group for both primary (change in depression severity) and secondary endpoints (depression-related health literacy). These benefits were independent of age, gender, type of therapy and severity of depression. The study also confirmed a significant dose-response relationship for the use of edupression.com®, while this was absent in the control group.
Prof. Lukas Pezawas, head of the study, commented on the results: "The eFICASY study provides convincing evidence for the efficacy of edupression.com® as a DiGA for unipolar depressed patients. These results are relevant for clinical practice and offer a promising option for improving health status and health literacy in patients with depression."
The results of the eFICASY study underline the importance of digital health applications such as edupression.com® in the field of mental health and offer a new treatment option for patients suffering from depression.
