Press release from:

The well-being and resilience of a company's workers are at the heart of its success. Prioritizing mental health is not only a compassionate decision; it is also the foundation of long-term innovation, creativity, and employee pleasure. EquityMatch took a step in encouraging this importance for companies across the globe. Thereby, on October 25, 2023, EquityMatch hosted a panel discussion with the theme "Nurturing Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace." The session gave an opportunity to illuminate ideas, best practices, and a commitment to creating more supportive and psychologically robust work environments.

Massimiliano (Max) Sulpizi, a brilliant visionary in the business arena, moderated this panel discussion. He is the founder and managing partner of HSMI-Corporate Consulting, as well as the creator of "EquityMatch." Max used his diverse experience as a merchant banker, venture capitalist, and startup founder to steer the discussion into unexplored territory.

The session had an amazing panel which included Jennifer K. Hill, Dr. Johnsey Thomas, and Dr. Mark Goulston. They interacted with the audience and created a lively session brimming with wonderful ideas and techniques for empowering mental health at work.

Jennifer began the session by discussing the key causes of mental health in the workplace. She is a well-known businesswoman, novelist, and television and radio host. She is also a well-known business leader who has written two key books and two white papers in addition to serving as CEO and Founder of JHill's Staffing and OptiMatch. She stated, "It is a real issue if you consider, how many hours of our life, we have 168 hours in any given week. Many people are working 80 to 90 plus hours which barely leaves time for sleep, eating, and other things."
She also noted that the early findings that epigenetics only pertained to humans have been debunked. She says that recent epigenetic research has revealed a significant shift: the environment now has a direct influence on gene activation. This discovery frequently results in unintentional hostile interactions among employees. As a result, she was able to demonstrate how a lack of a mindful work environment and comprehensive Employee Wellness Programs contributes to a variety of issues.

The panelists also discussed how a person becomes more stressed, cortisol levels rise, resulting in an inability to focus and listen. During the conversation, the role of stigma, leadership, and acceptance as determinants in these workplace challenges was also emphasized. This emphasis highlighted that each individual is uniquely designed, necessitating individualized strategies that are currently lacking in the workplace. This absence causes a number of mental health and well-being problems.

Dr. Mark then focused on strategies and tools for tackling the difficulties of mental health in the workplace. For nearly 25 years, he was a UCLA psychiatry professor and a member of the Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches. He explained, "One of the things that all mental conditions like Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Neurodiversity, and Schizophrenia cause are triggered easily. It takes very little to trigger you."

Thus, he went on to describe how the 22-Day Trigger Challenge might be used effectively to overcome workplace mental health issues. As a result, he elegantly summarized the transforming process in three key steps: activated, downshift, and reframe.

Several approaches, including paradoxical thinking and meditation, were also explored as valuable tools for both preventing and addressing mental health issues in the workplace. The panelists were able to demonstrate how paradoxical thinking allows an individual to shift from disregarding a situation to enthusiastically embracing it. According to them, it also permits people to re-create angry and scary circumstances in a joyous and amusing tone.
Dr. Johnsey was thus able to underline the meditation techniques that can be used in the workplace. He is a psychologist, a health coach, and a motivational speaker. He has been working on the subject of psychological well-being for over two years. During the discussion, he stated, "Whatever we do or whatever we say at the end of the day we find it difficult to sit for a while without thinking anything." With that being said, he underlined how meditation may be done at the workplace by attempting to focus on the background environment, pleasant noises, and so on.

The panel discussion then focused on effective workplace employer measurements, highlighting three key strategies: creating open communication, increasing leadership expertise, and adhering to virtuous principles. The training emphasized the significance of leadership's understanding of cost and the impact of their leadership style on the entire team. This underlined the importance of positive thinking in executive roles since it frequently has an impact on the entire organization.

The three speakers addressed the significance of instilling ideal values. As a result, it was discovered that the ideals of top-tier people frequently motivate those at the bottom level. As a result, the crucial importance of developing and conveying values that promote a healthy and productive work environment has been highlighted.

Finally, they explored Collaborative Care as a means of improving the workplace environment for employees. The discussion emphasized the need to foster a collaborative and cohesive work environment, emphasizing the important link between mental health and lifestyle choices. Access to therapists, including acupuncture services, and complete mental and emotional support were considered as critical tools for fostering a collaborative care culture at work.
The panel discussion was a fun and interactive session that allowed individuals to express themselves and ask the three professional speakers questions. As the session came to a close, attendees were prepared with ideas and skills for dealing with mental health issues at work. After acquiring these critical insights, they felt inspired to meet new challenges and chart a course toward a future distinguished by innovation and significant influence.
