BRIDGE ENERGY GROUP HELPS WORCESTER, MASS CUSTOMERS SAVE $1.25 MILLION WITH PILOT SMART GRID PROJECT

Press release from: Bridge Energy Group

MARLBOROUGH, MA – March 10, 2016 - BRIDGE Energy Group (BRIDGE) today announced its participation within National Grid’s Smart Energy Solutions (SES) program. As part of the pilot project, developed in partnership with customers and the city of Worcester, BRIDGE advised, implemented and tested the innovative energy system that saved 11,000 Worcester residents 2,300 megawatt-hours -- enough to power the local library for one year.

National Grid’s $44 million smart grid project was approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities in August 2012. The BRIDGE team worked alongside the company and a team of vendors to deliver a solution that included approximately 15,000 smart meters as well as the remote power outage sensors that enable crews to be dispatched directly to the source of the problem to restore power.

The most important phase of the SES program began in early 2015 with the activation of two dynamic pricing plans: Smart Rewards Pricing and Conservation Day Rebate. Both these plans, made possible in part due to the meter enhancements, provided participants with opportunities to lower their energy bills during the summer of 2015.

"The future of utilities calls for transforming business models that are more customer-centric, energy efficient and operationally effective. This empowers electricity consumers, while offering unique solutions that help increase grid reliability, reducing response time to power outages," said Michelle Fay, VP of Consulting Services, BRIDGE Energy Group. "BRIDGE's Utility-focused domain and technology expertise applied to implementing National Grid's transformational advances resulted in quantifiable cost and schedule savings for the client and their customers, improving overall operational performance.”
