Pianist and Composer GéNIA releases her peaceful piano single 'Prana', inspired by an equal breathing teachnique

Pianist and Composer GéNIA releases her peaceful piano single 'Prana', inspired by an equal breathing teachnique

On the 8th of September, pianist and composer GéNIA released her peaceful piano single 'Prana'. It is the second track from GéNIA's forthcoming album, 'Exhale'. 'Prana' in Sanskrit means 'breath'.

As our society is going through such turbulent times, with 'Prana', GéNIA would like to offer her audience some moments of calm, relaxation, repose and reflection.

Drawing on her skills as a composer, pianist & yoga teacher, the rhythm of the track is created to match an equal breathing technique, known as Sama Vritti in Sanskrit, which focuses on making each in & out breath the same length. By making one's breath smooth and steady, one can help to bring balance into one's life.

Being the founder of Piano-Yoga® (an innovative holistic method of piano playing), GéNIA will accompany the album with a series of breathing techniques and yoga postures, which will be released separately, to offer people the opportunity to experience this music in a different way. A series of live events has been organised to take place in 2024.

Starting from October 2023, the release of each track of the 'Exhale' album will take place on the first Friday of the month, culminating in the release of the whole album.

The cover image for the album is based on the original painting of the renowned Spanish painter Mariola Naranjo, who kindly gave permission to use it for this album.

The composition was recorded and produced by GéNIA on her Steinway grand piano. Mastering was done by Cicely Balston at AIR Studios, London.

Described by The Times as "an outstanding musician", Kharkiv-born concert pianist turned composer-yogi, GéNIA, recently enjoyed success with her new compositions by releasing her latest solo piano album 'Voyages français' alongside several sold-out London shows, whilst her music enjoyed placements in the critically acclaimed BBC America TV Series 'Killing Eve", the well-known British ITV Series 'Cold Feet", 'Sticks and Stones' and the Channel 4 Series 'Close to Me'.

GéNIA's music compositions can be heard on Classic FM, Scala Radio, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC London Radio 94.9, BBC World Service. London News TV Channel, Talk Radio, BBC Wales Radio, BBC Radio Bristol, to name just a few, as well as Caffé Nero branches worldwide (as GéNIA is Caffé Nero's featured classical artist).

Described by Gramophone magazine as "a charismatic pianist", GéNIA is known for her enthralling stage presence. She comes from a distinguished line of pianists, and was taught by her great-grandmother, the renowned pedagogue Regina Horowitz, the sister of pianist Vladimir Horowitz. GéNIA made her London debut as a concert pianist in the Park Lane Group Young Artist Series, which was followed by concert tours in the UK, Europe and USA. Her London venues include Wigmore Hall, Barbican, Southbank Centre, Olympia, Kings Place, St. John's Smith Square and St. Martin in the Fields.

As a performing artist GéNIA made a controversial and pioneering move away from the classical concert platform for a number of years. As an innovative composer and performer who crossed over into the world of pop music, she has collaborated with an eclectic range of artists, producers and composers including Gabriel Prokofiev, Howard Skempton, the Brodsky Quartet, Andy Sheppard, Jason Yarde, multi-Grammy nominated record producer Chris Craker, the triple BAFTA award winner and six-time Emmy nominee sound engineer Nigel Heath, as well as dance producers Germ, Vex'd, Kreepa and The Early Man.

Breaking classical music traditions, GéNIA's concerts often take the form of a show, rather than a classical concert, as she loves to connect with her audience, making the experience very personal to them.

In 2022 in connection with the war in Ukraine, GéNIA founded her own UK charity 'Support Kharkiv Foundation' in order to help citizens of Kharkiv and its region, where she was born.
