Pianist GéNIA releases the single 'Bella Ciao' for Ukraine

The Italian composer Paolo Cognetti wrote this arrangement of 'Bella Ciao' for the Ukrainian-born pianist GéNIA, titled 'To Genia - Peace in Ukraine'.

'Bella Ciao' is an original Italian folk song which became the anthem of the resistance movement by the partisans who opposed Nazi-fascism during their fight against the occupying forces of the Nazis.

Released on the 8th of July 2022 on GéNIA's label, GéNIA MUSIC, the composer and performer agreed that all the proceeds from the recording will be sent to Ukraine to help Ukrainian children of Kharkiv.

Devastated by the current war in Ukraine, the composer wanted to express his solidarity with Ukrainian people. Whereas the original Italian song is epic and energetic, this version is sad and melancholic, finishing in a hopeful way (the original minor key changes to major at the end).

GéNIA added her touch to the interpretation. She recorded and produced this track. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, GéNIA has been giving numerous concerts in support of Ukraine.

In May 2022 GéNIA has set up her own UK charity 'Support Kharkiv Foundation' to support the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and its citizens, as the city has undergone destruction on a huge scale during the war in Ukraine. It is a micro-trust in aid of GivingWorks, a charity registered in England and Wales (charity registration No.1078770). Currently GéNIA is working on the project of helping Kharkiv children with major health issues, as well as other children from Ukraine with the similar conditions, to be transported to Western hospitals, where they already have been accepted for treatments. By releasing the track, the composer and performer are hoping to raise more funds to help Ukrainian children.
