Press release from: Liverpool-Kop – The new independent Liverpool FC site

Jaimie Kanwar is proud to announce the launch of a different kind of Liverpool website –

Critical realism in the analysis of Liverpool FC is almost nonexistent in the media, with the majority of the press and most Liverpool fan-sites engaging in any or all of the following:

1. Constant blind-faith praise: Always praising the team and the management regardless of what is happening on the pitch.

2. Intolerance of criticism against LFC: This is prevalent in LFC fan-sites and talkbacks, and entails so called ’fans’ castigating anyone who has a critical word to say against the club.

3. Exaggerated hype: The mainstream media are the biggest culprits here. This manifests itself in the constant hype over English players. With LFC, it is Steven Gerrard who gets all the plaudits. According to TV ‘pundits’ and the written press, he is the greatest player in the world; solely responsible for all of Liverpool’s success; never has a bad game; is man of the match in every game and has no faults as a player. This is nonsense and amounts to irresponsible, dangerous ‘journalism’.

4. Sycophantic player worship: So called ‘fans’ put players on pedestals and worship the ground they walk on, showering them with unwarranted praise and generally inflating their already humungous egos.

5. ‘Toe the line’ punditry: This is the worst kind of expert ‘analysis’. Ex players and sports journalists who refuse to be critical for fear of consequences from the club, such as: Not being granted interviews; being refused access to Anfield; not being welcomed by the players etc.

Liverpool-Kop seeks to redress the balance with a critical approach to analyzing Liverpool FC. As a rejection of the poor current state of Liverpool FC journalism, the focus will be predominantly critical. Premiership clubs like Liverpool already have enough people fawning over them; what is needed is proper critical realism and a ‘tell it like it is’ approach.

The notion that criticizing the club and its management is synonymous with ‘not being a proper fan’ is the illogical and ridiculous.

Liverpool-Kop founder Jaimie Kanwar commented: “So called ‘fans’ who are incapable of accepting critical opinions that differ from their own are the real problem. I’m sick to death of the blind faith and the ridiculous notion that the only ‘real’ fans out there are the ones that always praise the club no matter what”.

The writers who contribute to Liverpool-Kop are all die-hard, lifelong Liverpool fans; however, they have not bought into the shallow commercialization of the modern game and hold Liverpool FC to the standards set by Bill Shankly and the old Liverpool boot room – standards that are sadly in decline.

A more critical perspective needs to be taken towards Liverpool FC, and football overall. That is what Liverpool-Kop is all about. Ultimately, Liverpool-Kop is an antidote to the hordes of brainwashed fans, pundits and sports writers who continually regurgitate the same tired media clichés about the club.

Rafael Benitez needs to stop criticising players in public
Rafael Benitez needs to learn that club affairs, whatever they may be, should always be conducted behind closed doors, writes Jaimie Kanwar, Editor of The recent public spat between Benitez and Tom Hicks made the club a laughing stock and made a mockery of the Liverpool way of doing things. Benitez should have learned from that farcical situation, but his latest comments about Xabi Alonso prove that he hasn’t learned

Liverpool FC's winning mentality has been eroded by a team of weak-minded losers …
There is a sickness shrouding Anfield, and it is not the anti-football, technical ineptitude and perennial underperformance in the league – it is the death of Liverpool’s winning mentality, writes Jaimie Kanwar, Editor of Quite simply, the current Liverpool team is full of defeatist, whining LOSERS. Bill Shankly once said: “A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that

Peter Crouch has scored/created 38 goals in the last 44 starts. Stop ignoring h …
Rafael Benitez’s illogical and infuriating refusal to regularly start Peter Crouch is an abuse of his position as Liverpool Manager, especially since the statistics prove that Crouch almost guarantees a goal or an assist when he starts games. Just what does Peter Crouch have to do to be treated fairly by Benitez?. As Liverpool’s top scorer last season, Crouch was an integral part of the team that got to the Champions league

When will people WAKE UP and realise that Liverpool FC need a new Captain?
Liverpool’s abject performance against West Ham on the 30th January 2008 contained the usual mix of technical ineptitude, creative paucity and predictable anti-football, but one thing stood out more than anything else: The total lack of leadership on the field. My feelings about Steven Gerrard are well known – I do not believe he is world class and I do not rate him as a Captain. I have been criticized all
