BITS Pilani 1957 Batch Goldies with VC and President BITSAA

BITS Pilani 1957 Batch Goldies with VC and President BITSAA

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Rajasthan sees thousands of graduates pass through its doors every year and thanks to the Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee Reunions Program organized by the BITS Alumni Association (BITSAA), the entire Pilani campus gets into festive mood for the occasion.

BITSAA invites all alumni to revisit the people and the places that made their time at BITS Pilani unique and unforgettable. For BITS alums whether compelled by nostalgia or curiosity, attending a reunion is an opportunity to renew old friendships, make new ones and discover the changes that have taken place both in themselves and their alma mater. Reunions apart from being social also provide an opportunity to develop business and community networks. The joy of meeting the batchmates after 25 or 50 years back in the campus premises is something which is beyond measurement and description.

The Golden Jubilee reunion for the 1957 batch took off with the arrival of 16 Goldies on 23 October 2007 late evening at the VFAST Hostel of the Institute in Vidya Vihar Campus. For the spouses who had accompanied the Goldies, the suspense of the mysterious place called Pilani which their hubbies were referring every now and then for umpteen years started unfolding. Many nostalgic anecdotes and reminiscences of vidya vihar campus days were exchanged and half decade old friendships were renewed.

On 24 October 2007, the Goldies took the customary pilgrimage around the campus which had about 1000 students then as compared to 4000 students now and visited the Sharda Peeth the beautiful White marble temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the Shiv Ganga, the swank Student Activities Centre (SAC), the Birla Museum, various laboratories, the hostels where they had stayed, the messes they ate, the Workshop, the Information Processing Centre, the grand Library building, etc.

In the function held at the Lecture Theatre Complex, Dr R K Mittal President BITSAA welcomed the Goldies and introduced the senior officers of the Institute to them. While Vice Chancellor Prof L K Maheshwari gave an overview of the Institute that was, that is and that will be, Prof K E Raman Deputy Director gave an inner view of salient features. A specially designed memento by BITSAA to celebrate the occasion was presented by the Vice Chancellor to the Goldies who were visibly moved by the bond with the alma mater. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by the Vice President of BITSAA with the punch line that all that glittering may not be gold but the BITS Alum goldies present for the reunion were glittering indeed.

For Proud to be BITSians, Jubilee Reunions undoubtedly contribute meaningfully to the grand mosaic that is University life, culture and tradition.

The day culminated with the Reunion dinner organized in the lush green lawns of the VFAST Hostel. The Goldies left Pilani on 25th October 2007 morning with the satisfaction that marvelous changes had happened in the campus in the past fifty years and greater changes still await in the next fifty years to come.

It's no wonder that there are only a handful of universities in India which evoke the same level of passion among alumni and at BITS Pilani the PQ Passion Quotient is indeed the highest among alumni.

It is known that we dissect nature along lines laid down by our native language and that language is not simply a reporting device for experience but a defining framework for it. Language is the armory of the human mind, and at once contains the trophies of its past and the weapons of its future conquests. No one has any doubt that language shapes the way we think, and determines
