dacoso implementation of a WDM system in the high security data center of the DARZ full service IT provider
Langen, August 12, 2015.dacoso, the IT service provider for data centers and networks headquartered in Langen near Frankfurt, installed the wavelength multiplexer for the glass fiber connection between Darmstadt and Frankfurt. The starting point was the DARZ high security data center in Darmstadt, which is now linked to four data centers in Frankfurt via high availability and optionally encrypted optical fiber lines. The distance of some 30 km means that the comprehensive security demands for data mirroring are complied with.
DARZ is a full service IT provider with its own high security data center in the former “vault building” of the Hessian Federal State central bank in Darmstadt. From this highly secure location, the service provider offers its customers solutions ranging from Colocation via Hosting, Housing, IaaS all the way to Managed services.
“Against the background of recent sabotage of data and on account of high security demands made on companies, many firms are now interested in full mirroring of their data”, says Lars Göbel, Head of DARZ Sales and IT services. “With our optical 100 Gbit/s connections to several Frankfurt data centers, we have now paved the way for this. We can therefore offer our customers not only the extremely high security of our own data center, but additional solutions for the protection of their critical company data. Business continuity will be assured even through extreme loss events, since risk zones in Darmstadt and Frankfurt differ in terms of hazards of earthquakes, flooding and risk.”
The two network node rooms of DARZ were linked to four data centers in Frankfurt via several redundant, non-crossing glass fiber lines. Wave division multiplexing (WDM) allows several data streams to be transmitted over these lines simultaneously. The ADVA Optical Networking FSP 3000 system makes this possible. It meets the DARZ requirements for a highly available system which will be completely 100 Gbit/s ready.
This WDM platform is fully manufactured in Germany and is renowned for its robustness and excellent performance. “Our customers also have the option of encrypting the entire data stream”, says Stephan Rettenberger, Head of Marketing at ADVA Optical Networking. “We are using the AES-256 algorithm here, with regularly exchanged keys. This functionality will in future also be integrated in our systems for connections up to 400 Gbit/s.” The encrypted data are of no use to hackers. Encryption has no effect on the transmission performance of a link.
