Award-Winning Voices.com Member, Kurt Kelly, Voice of James Patterson's Self-Destructing Book Campaign
After a nationwide search of thousands of voices, book author James Patterson and his advertising agency selected Voices.com member, Kurt Kelly, as the voice for the book trailer and campaign that is now up for several awards. The book for which Kurt Kelly was chosen to be campaign narrator is part of the popular Private Vegas series of thrillers by Patterson.
Patterson's team took the launch of the book to new heights, with a major promotion that includes a trailer for an e-version of the book that literally self-destructs as you read each page, attempting to finish the book in under 24 hours, as well as a $294,038.00, over-the-top package that includes a first-class flight to an undisclosed location, two-night stay in a luxurious boutique hotel, a trained bomb squad to handle an actual self-destructing book, gold binoculars, a 5-course dinner with James Patterson, and the entire Alex Cross book series, all signed by the author.
This campaign, the first of its kind, had the goal of creating a sense of suspense, adventure, and uniqueness about Patterson's newest release. The booming voice-over for the project was recorded at Live Video Inc. Studios in Los Angeles using an ipDTL connection to New York Ad Agency studios for directed reads by Kurt Kelly, a star in his own right.
"They loved my delivery of the trailer without even seeing the video," says Kelly, who has voiced projects for such clients as SNL, Virgin, and Sony. "The sound I had was a home run for this new concept launch. It was a thrill to work with such an amazing production team, as well as to get the timing down to split seconds to fit the precut trailer."
The explainer video, which breaks down the campaign, both with Kelly's narration, can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kair9G1nM_0&list=UUIlQCCfaAz_zpbkSMjE6QsA
