Crosswalk Magazine: "Set Aside Sundays for Rest and Worship"

Crosswalk.com is a popular online Christian magazine that features daily spiritual articles, resources, and guidance. On April 21, 2023, the Christian website published an article titled, "What is the Sabbath and Is It Still Important Today?" Surprisingly, this article applied to Sunday every single argument and justification provided in the Bible for observing God's true seventh-day Sabbath, Saturday. The article stated in part:

• "The word 'Sabbath' is related to a Hebrew root that means 'cease' or 'stop.' God commanded His people to cease from their labor, so they could rest, refresh, and refuel."

• "Since God included the Sabbath in the 10 Commandments, He must have thought it was important."

• "So it stands to reason we should also honor the 4th commandment to remember the Sabbath."

• "For physical health and spiritual well-being, we need rest."

• "God set a healthy rhythm of work and rest for us at creation."

• "When we set aside Sundays for rest and worship, we follow the healthy rhythm God established for us, and we can start a new week on Monday refreshed instead of exhausted."

How do you take biblical mandates that apply to the seventh day, or Saturday, and just randomly apply them to Sunday? There is no biblical command to observe Sunday as the Sabbath or to treat it as a replacement for the seventh-day Sabbath. There is also no biblical evidence that the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday. In fact, the Bible consistently refers to the seventh day of the week, Saturday, as the Sabbath (Mark 2:28). The New Testament records that Jesus and His disciples observed the Sabbath on Saturday (Luke 4:17; Acts 17:2), and there is no indication that they or any of the other early Christians ever observed Sunday as the Sabbath.

The reason why we should keep the seventh day, known as Saturday, is because the Fourth Commandment of the Decalogue says plainly and positively that "the seventh day is the Sabbath" (Ex. 20:8-11). The New Testament also tells us that the women who witnessed Jesus' death and burial "returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment" (Luke 23:56). Additionally, in Matthew 24:20, Jesus made it abundantly clear that the seventh-day Sabbath was to be observed both during the siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD and during the final abomination of desolation in the last days.

What reasonable excuse can anyone who believes in the Bible possibly give for keeping any other day holy? If "the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it" and commanded that it be kept holy, then why do so many Christians today worship on Sunday?

Let Us Stop Avoiding the Real Issues
Let Us Stop Avoiding the Real Issues
As the 2025 General Conference Session convenes, with believers from around the world watching and praying, there is an unmistakable sense of frustration among many of the faithful. While we will be given lectures about returning our tithes and offerings-as outlined in the proposed 2025 Church Manual agenda-we must ask ourselves: is this truly the burning concern on the hearts of God's remnant people at this critical hour in history? While walking down the hallway at the America's Center Convention Complex-the site of the 62nd General Conference Session-I saw Ganoune Diop approaching. Last-day Sabbath Keepers
The Old Testament prophecies make it clear that in the last days of human history those who are loyal to God will be Seventh-day observers.
