Dr. Mrosik: "Bulgaria could become a green energy centre with the largest floating PV park in Europe"
Bulgaria could become a sustainable energy centre in Europe with the largest floating photovoltaic park in Europe. Dr. Peter Mrosik, owner and CEO of Profine Energy, stated this at the first media event of the energy company in Sofia. During the press conference Profine Energy, which is a joint venture between the German companies Wirth Gruppe and Profine Group, presented the company's intentions to invest up to 1 billion EUR in Montana region by building a floating solar park at the Ogosta Dam."We are very excited for our first solar project in a country like Bulgaria where we are doing successful business for more than 25 years. There is a long road to walk before we can confirm that the photovoltaic park is possible to implement. Currently, the negotiations are only at the stage to examine whether the local conditions are favourable for such a project to be done, but if all goes well it may position Bulgaria among the great players on the European solar energy map. Talking to local people is extremely important to us for them to understand the essence of our project, its environmental importance and potential to create jobs and reduce electricity costs", said from Dr. Mrosik, owner and CEO of Profine Energy.
The media event was attended by Mr. Moritz Seiler, Commercial Attaché at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bulgaria, as the Profine Energy's ventures in Bulgaria enjoy the full support of the German federal government represented by the Embassy in Sofia. Germany is also one of the countries along Austria, the Netherlands and Spain where Profine Group has already successfully realised similar projects.
During the event, Dr. Mrosik also explained in detail that the photovoltaic project is at a very early stage, and at the moment the company is executing a detailed technical and economic examination. Only after the initial on-site exploration and legal compliance are conducted the investor will decide if it is going to proceed with the project and to participate in a possible tender.
The solar park of Profine Energy would be the largest project of this type in Europe. Floating photovoltaic parks have higher efficiency than the regular ones. This is due to natural properties of the water to cool the solar panels which in the meantime reduce the level of water evaporation and protects the local flora and the fauna.
The floating solar park project will not affect the use of the Ogosta dam for fishing, sports, and cultural activities. This kind of solar parks do not pose any danger to humans, animals, and plants. Practice in other countries shows that floating parks reduce water loss through evaporation, thereby preserving the natural habitat of fish and amphibian species.
For Bulgaria, the solar park is of strategic importance because it will contribute to the local economic growth due to the entire reliance of local supply chain and contractor. It also will help Bulgaria to fulfil its obligations towards the European Union regarding green transition. Furthermore, it will support Montana's economic development and might bring more German and international investors to Northwest Bulgaria.
Currently, Profine Group is building solar parks in Serbia and Bosnia with an output of 450 MW and 100 MW, respectively. The 2 billion EUR investment in Serbia is for the construction of industrial carbon-free park where the manufacturing of PVC profiles will be entirely supplied by green energy.
