Ethylene gas absorbers are especially used to extend the shelf life of climacteric fruits such as apples, kiwifruit, apricots, bananas, mangoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, and avocados, and vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, and asparagus.
Many agricultural products discharge ethylene gas after harvest. Ethylene gas is a type of plant hormone, which is the colorless and odorless unsaturated hydrocarbon that accelerates the aging of plant tissue and ripening. Ethylene gas has positive effects like improving the taste of fruits and giving an appealing color, but ethylene gas emission during storage after harvest brings about acceleration of ripening and aging of fruits.
This also accelerates the aging process of producing goods and flowers and causes them to wither or soften. In addition, ethylene gas allows for fast pathogenic bacteria infiltration. Ethylene gas absorber attaches and removes the gas which accelerates the aging of fruits and keeps fruits and flowers fresh for long-term storage and helps in maintaining the product quality during shipping.
