Adventists in Italy Join Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Muslims and Political Leaders to Hear the Pope's Message on the Need for Active Collaboration

The theme of the meeting was "Peace, Spirituality, and Solidarity." Seventh-day Adventists met with religious and political leaders on December 20, 2022, in the city of Jesi, Italy, to reflect on the spirit of Christmas and to deepen their relationship with Roman Catholics, Orthodox and Muslims in order to create a more visible unity.

The city mayor, Lorenzo Fiordelmondo, said at the beginning of the gathering: "One of the tools for organizing a society based not on such a material culture is to enhance spirituality and the activities of thought, the awareness of being able to build something together with other religious professions. A strong spirit of solidarity and attention to the little ones are the key words for this Christmas 2022."

Roman Catholic Bishop Gerardo Ronconi, representing the Catholic Church, delivered Pope Francis' message to the gathering: "The Pope assumes that as believers we must trust in the mercy that gives us hope, even in a particularly difficult situation … The Pope wrote that crises change people, but in addition to seeing the negative effects, we must also observe those realities that have revived after Covid , in those realities the sense of us has emerged, the testimony that alone we do not go forward, we need to activate the spirit of collaboration."

Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Johnatan Breci expressed the following: "I share the idea of ​​spirituality and teamwork with the Mayor. Sharing the same direction, each with their own diversity. In us, one goes beyond personal boundaries and discovers oneself as part of the whole. Together we can team up for the good of the territory. Let us draw inspiration from the principles of Christianity to deal with the republic."

It is not God's will that unites us with Rome. God is not calling Seventh-day Adventists to do this. It is the Pope's call, not God's, that is bringing the churches together. Embracing Rome requires significant adjustments and compromises to our unique beliefs and practices. It is foolish and naïve to think that greater unity and "teamwork" with Rome are even possible without any compromise.

What do you think is happening to our distinct Protestant school of prophetic interpretation regarding the beast, Babylon, the antichrist, and the man of sin as we work together with Rome to fulfill a common witness? It is eventually abandoned. What happens to the Three Angels' Message? They are being put in jeopardy by misguided leaders.
