Many Brandenburg Cities Already Available in 3D

The production of 3D building models for the Brandenburg Surveying and Geoinformation Authority is completed.

Digital 3D city models are more and more being used for urban planning, solar potential assessment, noise and emission prognoses, mobile communications planning, heat requirement maps, tourism and marketing as well as many other applications.

The Brandenburg Surveying and Geoinformation Authority (Landesbetrieb Landesvermessung und Geoinformation Brandenburg, LGB) assigned M.O.S.S. Computer Grafik Systeme GmbH to produce 3D models of 1 million buildings (out of 2,5 million in total) in cooperation with GTA GeoService GmbH. This covers an area of 4,500 sqkm. The software solution tridicon® was used, working with recent stereo aerial imagery as source data. The buildings were modeled automatically in level of detail 2 based on cadaster footprints with standard roof forms and roof superstructures larger than 20 sqm. Basis for the data structure is the national German CityGML profile (AdV-CityGML-Profil). Using an identifier, the 3D buildings can be joined with the German cadaster data (ALKIS) in a database. Updates of the 3D data are planned in a 3 year cycle.

The 3D buildings can be purchased from the Brandenburg Surveying and Geoinformation Authority (LGB). The LGB offers the classical download options as well as a web feature service (WFS).
