Urinary Incontinence Market: New research activities show links between urinary incontinence and other health conditions
The prevalence of urinary incontinence has affected a majority of population and the possibility of this condition increases with age. Majority of old adults and women have been facing the issue and availing treatments to improve quality of lives. Research activities found the connection between urinary incontinence and other health conditions such as mental health and falls. After conducting different research activities, new findings have emerged. Researchers suggested doctors to have a different conversation with patients suffering from urinary incontinence as they may be suffering from mental health conditions. Moreover, the possibility of falling increases due to lack of focus with urgency in bladder. Research activities will continue in the coming years and market is estimated to grow considerably. According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the global urinary incontinence market is estimated to reach $19.34 billion by 2030. Following are some of the activities taking place across the globe.Researchers have been conducting various research activities to improve quality of lives of people suffering from urinary incontinence. Ongoing research activities have shown the links between urinary incontinence and mental health of women. Researchers from Portugal found that women suffering from urinary incontinence underwent lower self-esteem and depression issues more than those women who do not have the condition. Researchers have urged clinicians and physicians to ask different questions related to mental health while treating for incontinence conditions. After studying women with urinary incontinence and those without conditions, researchers found that those with condition utilized mental health services more than those without. They suggested that doctors need to look out for signs of low self-worth and depression in patients and trust their own judgment if they feel anything of concern. This will help in improving the quality of lives of patients.
Advent of innovative urinary incontinence devices, surge in demand for minimally invasive procedures, shift from conventional solutions to novel urinary incontinent products, and efficiency in the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) drive the growth of the global urinary incontinence market. However, lack of awareness regarding urinary incontinence devices, post-operative complications, and surge in concerns toward disposable products hinder the market growth. Rise in healthcare expenditures in the developing economies and increase in technology integration present new opportunities in the coming years.

As research activities are ongoing to find the link between urinary incontinence and other conditions, researchers found a link with falls among old adults. They found that possibility of falling down in geriatric population suffering from urinary incontinence is twice as compared to geriatric population that does not suffer from urinary incontinence. The manner of walking and focus on bladder may lead to falls among old adults. Owing to urgency in bladder, there were changes in gait and the distraction led to falls. People slow down and take shorter steps in normal conditions. But when there is urgency in bladder, people walked faster and took longer steps than usual. These caused distraction and increased the possibility of falling down. Researchers explained that there is a lot to explore in this area and new developments will explain more about the link.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Urinary Incontinence Market:
COVID-19 is a large family of viruses that causes illness ranging from common cold to more severe respiratory diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has limited the industry growth significantly, as the demand for urinary incontinence device decreased owing to decline in diagnostics and surgical procedures in the first half of 2020. According to the study published in the British Journal of Surgery, around 28.4 million elective procedures were cancelled or postponed in May 2020, based on a 12-week period of peak disruption to hospital services due to COVID-19. Thus, the outbreak of COVID-19 has negatively impacted the growth of the urinary incontinence device market.
• Outpatient clinics for urinary incontinence, benign prostatic hyperplasia, infertility, sexual medicine, benign scrotal conditions, renal stone, and bladder stone were mostly affected during the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Moreover, there was significant reduction in several types of non-urgent surgical treatments as healthcare staff has been shifted to take care of Covid-infected patients.
