Researchers Continue to Improve Breast Cancer Reconstruction
Researchers from the division of Plastic Surgery at the Jewish General Hospital have continued to improve outcomes in breast cancer reconstruction. Led by Dr. Tassos Dionisopoulos and senior resident Dr. Tyler Safran, they have recently published a new article in the top Plastic Surgery Journal: Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. The article entitled: "Enhanced Recovery Protocol in Prepectoral Direct-To-Implant Reconstruction,' (https://journals.lww.com/plasreconsurg/Fulltext/9900/Enhanced_Recovery_Protocol_in_Prepectoral.265.aspx) describes their multimodal approach to improving pain outcomes in breast reconstruction.Dr. Safran says that enhanced recovery after surgery protocols have begun to appear in almost all surgical procedures, and it is so important that we bring these to plastic surgery. They have noticed major differences in patient's pain levels and length of stay. Especially during the covid pandemic and surgery slowdowns, it was so important to get patients into surgery and back home safely and as fast as possible.
This is one of the many publications recently published by this group and they plan on continuing to improve outcomes in breast reconstruction.
