> BOYNCIANA" by Johanna Bruckner / winner of the Erste Bank MehrWERT Art Award 2022
The relationship between affect and the body with its organs is at the center of "BOYNCIANA". Referring to Paul Preciado's essay "The Hot War", Johanna Bruckner conceives the world as a metabolic system that is neither binary nor patriarchally organized and hosts a translocal body conference with non-normative sculptural organs in das weisse haus. These newly produced works convey her understanding of a "different" Europe as a metabolic system that thwarts the hegemonic order and opens a space for the affective and sensual.

> "The Backyard On the Seventh Floor" by Corinna Helenelund / Curated by Frederike Sperling
With "The Backyard On the Seventh Floor" das weisse haus presents Corinna Helenelund's first solo exhibition in Austria. The artist shows numerous textile works from her titular work series engaging with the unwordability of abstract physical pain and emotion. Where words cannot grasp the complexity of one's perception, Corinna Helenelund introduces poetic strategies of externalizing somatic sensation and psychological states.

>On the opening evening, the studios of the studio artists - Julia Gaisbacher, Lena Rosa Händle, Lavinia Lanner, Rafael Lippuner, Ryts Monet, Hyeji Nam, Yoshinori Niwa and Yuji Oshima - will also be open on the first floor.

das weisse haus

In 2017 the Viennese Kunstverein (art association) das weisse haus celebrated its 10th anniversary. The team headed by Alexandra Grausam offers a dynamic experimental field for young artistic approaches, establishing the institution as a missing link between the educational facilities at universities and academies and galleries and exhibition halls. With its comprehensive and varied program encompassing the presentation of art, dialog and discourse, das weisse haus combines theory and practice into a coherent whole.

das weisse haus was conceived as a diverse platform for young and international artists from a multitude of disciplines. The institution organizes first solo shows as well as cross-media group shows, with a special consideration for the idiosyncrasies of media art and fine art in their respective presentation and communication.

The nomadic character of the institution is part of its identity and a central characteristic. The regular change of the locations (between 2007 and 2017 the Kunstverein was housed in six different places in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 7th Viennese districts) and its ever-changing manifestations of the exhibition program showcase the flexibility and openness of the Kunstverein in its interaction with new contexts. Site-specific art that explicitly engages with the provided spaces is a key aspect of this program. This symbiosis of art and space and the interaction with its urban environment make das weisse haus a very unique setting for art.

Freedom and connectivity

das weisse haus is a space where international artists and curators can collect first experiences in exhibition practice. As an active platform for networking, das weisse haus offers a professional institutional environment to artists, characterized by meticulous selection processes, top-class juries, intensive education programs, public relations work and precise organization. A key objective of the Kunstverein is the development and constant expansion of a wide-ranging network that gives artists an access to the local art scene and important contacts - to young curators in particular. das weisse haus established the Erste Bank ExtraVALUE art award in 2016 in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum New York and the Erste Bank ExtraVALUE sponsoring program, as well as "das weisse haus for Graduates", a scholarship program for young exhibition makers in cooperation with Phileas - A Fund for Contemporary Art which run between 2015 and 2019.

The studio and residency program studio das weisse haus fosters and strengthens the international connectivity of the local art scene. The spaces of das weisse haus are available to artists living in Vienna; at the same time, international artists and curators, theoreticians and art critics can take part in this program for one to three months.
