Bloomberg Social Media Evening “Advertising is salesmanship.” #bbsme13
On October 10, 2013, Bloomberg and noomilicious GmbH jointly organised the first Bloomberg Social Media Evening under the slogan ”Advertising is salesmanship” held at the premises of Bloomberg Frankfurt. The slogan is based on the quote by Claude C. Hopkins in his book ”Scientific Advertising”, published in 1923:”Advertising is salesmanship. Its principles are the principles of salesmanship. Successes and failures in both lines are due to like causes. Thus every advertising question should be answered by the salesman‘s standards”.
About 70 guests from the areas of marketing, investor relations, PR and finance attended the event and were welcomed by the leading German Sales and Relationship Manager Armando Paz, who gave a presentation on the basic functions of Social Velocity.
The other speakers were presented by host David Tweed (Europe Editor of Bloomberg Television), who led the audience through the whole evening. The speakers were all hand-picked and covered a broad range of aspects, from the financial world via a philosophical and scientific approach to the implementation by a major IT service provider in Frankfurt. Andreas Kern, the CEO of the social trading platform wikifolio.com, announced that investments had increased by 300,000 EUR even during the event. Jonas Krauss, founder and CEO of StockPulse.de, described the business model for which he and his partner are responsible, thus transferring the social media added value to a context associated with the financial industry. Mark Turrell, strategist of Orcasci and author of the upcoming book ”Scaling”, made the following statement in his presentation:
„Companies can make small smart moves to produce outsized results, helped tremendously by today’s social technology.”
The final speaker on the podium was Carsten Blau, Business Director and member of the Management Board of ETECTURE. His presentation on customer-oriented implementation in the advertising industry completed the topics discussed.
In the subsequent panel discussion, the audience seized the opportunity to ask for further clarification and to question the speakers, including Dolphi Untch, CEO of noomilicious GmbH, about more advanced topics. There was one question, for example, about how Bloomberg ensures that tweets and their statements are reliable. David Tweed, as host, responded to this question by saying that any information published by Bloomberg is personally checked by one of their 2,300 journalists.
