A Cadence for Redemption (Conversations with Abraham Lincoln)

Eve Wood is pleased to announce the release of her book of poems entitled A Cadence for Redemption: Conversations with Abraham Lincoln.

Written in the voice of Abraham Lincoln, this poem cycle constitutes an imaginary conversation between the sixteenth president of the United States and a modern-day woman who attempts to make sense of the chaos she sees in the world. Touching on socio-political issues such as bigotry, hate crimes, war, apathy and personal responsibility, this collection forges a reimagining of history, delving into the mind of one of the most important political figures in American history.

From the author:

I began this book as a means of consoling myself, longing to discuss the tragedy and injustice I saw in the world today with the one man who could perhaps make sense of it. As I delved deeper into the fictional and purely imagined personae of Lincoln, the voice of an alter-ego began to emerge-a voice of reason and contemplation, justice and personal integrity-and this granted me the first solace I'd known in many years. Of course, this "disembodied voice" I channeled was a part of me, my psyche forever changed after having read the sum of Lincoln's personal letters and correspondence. This collection therefore represents a synthesis of his sublime wit and nuanced character transfigured into poetic language and gently filtered by a woman of this era into words that strive to remind the world that sanity is still possible.
