Ship Identification System Coming to the German Coast

The ship identification system AIS (Automatic Identification System), which is a global standard since 2004, is now coming to the German coast. The tender of the Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Wilhelmshaven is open until October 16th. All together 30 reception points will be built along the German coast. The received ship data as for example course, speed and possibly freight will be broadcast from each reception point to the 3 data centers in Wilhelmshaven, Travemünde and Brunsbüttel. The successful bidder is expected to acquire the hardware and to customize or program the software. Bidders with experience in installing AIS systems are preferred. The tender specifications can be obtained at a price of 170 Euros.
