Knürr and Daxten Cooperate to Provide More Energy Efficiency in Data Centers

Press release from: Knürr AG

/ PR Agency: Martin T.W. Hochleiter Werbe- und PR GmbH
Knürr AG, one of the leading providers of complete solutions for IT infrastructures in data centers, and Daxten, an innovative manufacturer of connectivity systems and distributor for Koldlok solutions will closely cooperate in Germany in the data center thermal management area.
Koldlok solutions are sealing systems that reliably block off cable openings and all other inlets in data center raised floors. This minimizes escaping cool air, increases energy efficiency by up to 63 percent and reduces the power consumption of cooling systems dramatically. Any possible overheating of the data center hardware is also significantly reduced when the systems are used, as is the risk of system failures.

“With Knürr we now have an excellent partner for the professional distribution of Koldlok solutions with an enormous range of experience in equipping IT environments and access to a huge number of strategic customers, who will now also benefit from the high level of savings potential provided by Koldlok technology with data center thermal management”, says Chad Rislov, Daxten founder and Managing Director of Daxten GmbH. “Knürr will specifically show this crème de la crème group of customers how cooling problems can be easily resolved without having to invest in additional, expensive and energy-guzzling thermal management equipment.”
“As a result of our partnership with Daxten we now have the right solution in our offering to relieve data center operators and IT managers of a major worry”, explains a happy Rupert Reiter, Knürr product manager for rack and bus systems in Arnstorf.
He’s talking about the problem of inadequately sealed cable openings in data center raised floors, where up to 63% of the generated cool air escapes and no longer gets to where it is urgently needed, i.e. to the racks and servers in server rooms.
The result? The cooling airflow breaks off, the hardware tends to overheat, and system failures with all the connected costs threaten. “Until now the only conventional solution left here was to start up cooling systems, or even purchase additional cooling equipment to keep the air pressure and cooling current constant and consequently keep the hardware at a suitable temperature”, adds Mr. Reiter. “From now on the raised floor openings will simply be sealed with Koldlok systems, so that work can continue with the existing cooling capacities – with reduced power, and therefore significantly less power consumption.
The Koldlok solution consists of special fibers that close around the cables and other installations that go through raised floors in data centers, and consequently stop cooling air from escaping. Koldlok is quickly and easily installed with the aptly-named “stick-and-click” procedure. Two moves is all it takes, i.e. inserting (stick) the Koldlok system that consists of two components into the floor opening, and fixing (click) the two components.
The complete Koldlok portfolio is now available at Knürr, and includes both versions for integration into existing cable infrastructures and for installation with new cable openings being laid.
