Isabellenhütte is presenting the new IPC Modular current measurement module

Isabellenhütte has unveiled its new IPC Modular measurement module for phase current measurement with enhanced components at the PCIM Europe international conference in Nuremberg. The new device can reduce the total IPC costs considerably. One of the factors behind the reduction in costs is the brand-new delta-sigma (∆Σ) modulator. This was available in previous models, but now Isabellenhütte is using a new variation for analogue/digital conversion that offers additional functions. “The new IPC’s ∆Σ modulator has an array of additional features that allow us to solder fewer components on the circuit board,” says Athier J. Lafta, Product Manager at Isabellenhütte. Furthermore, the IPC is completely galvanically isolated.
Another important feature of the new IPC is the non-volatile electronic memory which automatically calibrates the phase current measurement module. “That saves customers time and money,” says Athier J. Lafta.
Fully configurable and with internal isolation up to 1,400 V
The new current measurement module is also isolated up to 1,400 V. As a result, the IPC can be used universally to detect phase current in industrial environments and also to measure current in AC/DC converters that require a high degree of isolation. “Thanks to the higher level of isolation, we can provide a current measurement module for phase current detection precisely according to customer requirements,” explains Athier J. Lafta. In view of specific requirements regarding phase current measurement, it’s not just the fully configurable isolation that is attractive for customers. Isabellenhütte also offers the IPC as a modular component: In terms of communications, customers have the choice between a number of different interfaces such as the RS-485 or the optical UART interface. With filters, the system can measure values from sources of up to approx. 75 Ksample/s and can also be supplied with optional overcurrent detection. A serial 1 Bit data stream with 20 Mbit/s maximum is possible without filters. Based on shunt technology, the IPC can measure continuous current ranging from 150 to several thousand amperes.

About Isabellenhütte Heusler

New FMx shunt family: Small and low-ohmic
Isabellenhütte has developed a new range of precision resistors in standard sizes with resistances ranging from 1 to 6 mOhm for applications which require small and low-ohmic shunts. In terms of their construction, the components are also less complex than the current ISA-PLAN®resistance families. And yet, they offer the same performance quality: very good long-term stability, a low temperature coefficient, and low thermoelectric voltages. With the FMx shunt family, Isabellenhütte has

BAX shunt: High-performance component for electric vehicles
Electromobility is steadily gaining ground in the automotive industry, and its relevance is increasing accordingly. With the presentation of its new BAX shunt, Isabellenhütte is now taking due account of the requirements that this trend is imposing on components for high-power battery management systems. In the last year, demand for high-performance shunts for use in electric vehicles has skyrocketed. This is down to the pace of development in the electromobility sector.
