Neil Nitkin Mekesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta star in Shortcut Romeo

Neil Nitkin Mekesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta star in Shortcut Romeo

Mumbai, India - Produced by Manjari Susi Ganesh and directed by her husband Susi Ganesh, Shortcut Romeo is the first film from the team under the Susi Ganesh Productions Pvt. Ltd banner. The film has its world premiere in Cannes May 22 at the Marché du Film which takes place in tandem with the Cannes Film Festival-the most prestigious film festival in the world. This year the festival spotlights India to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema. The film's stars and more than 10,000 film industry professionals will be in the south of France for the celebration. Bombay Berlin, co-owned by Arfi Lamba and Katharina Suckale provide consulting services to the company.

Shortcut Romeo is unique because it is a Hindi language remake of the original Tamil language film, Thiruttu Payale. This is perhaps the first time in the history of Bollywood cinema and the global film industry that a director has remade his own movie.

Ganesh, who wrote, directed and produced Shortcut Romeo, explains why he has taken the unusual step of remaking his own film. "A lot of people from the Hindi film industry were chasing me for the rights to the film--because the story has an international appeal. The content and style is very contemporary."

Numerous changes have been made to the film. For instance, the director is the only cast member to appear in both films. Bollywood superstars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and rising star Puja Gupta have taken on the lead roles. Shortcut Romeo has additional twists and turns, and the setting has been changed from Australia to Kenya--where the hero fights martial arts artists inside the Masai Mara National Reserve-a game reserve in Kenya. The film screens May 22 at 3:30pm at the Palais in Cannes.
