Adelphi University Board of Trustees Elected Four New Members

The Adelphi University Board of Trustees elected four new members bringing valuable legal, higher education, corporate, and leadership experience.

Philip DiSanto ’12 from Malverne, NY will serve on the Academic Affairs Committee and the Student Life Committee. Mr. DiSanto is currently in his first year at Columbia Law School. He graduated summa cum laude from Adelphi in 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. While at Adelphi, he was an active member of the Student Government Association, serving as its president in 2012. In addition to his responsibilities as president, Mr. DiSanto was a member of several prestigious honor societies, and served as the fundraising chairman of the largest fraternity on campus.

Susan H. Murphy, Ph.D. from Ithaca, NY will serve on the Academic Affairs Committee and the Student Life Committee. Dr. Murphy is the Vice President for Student and Academic Services (SAS) at Cornell University. Under her direction are Athletics and Physical Education, Office of the Dean of Students, Gannett Health Services, SAS Finance and Administration (including Campus Life Enterprise Services), Public Service Center, Cornell Career Services and the Office of the University Registrar. In addition to her current responsibilities at Cornell, Dr. Murphy is a member of the Policy Committee of the Council of Ivy Presidents. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Acme United, Inc., a company listed on the NYSE, is a member of the Visiting Committee for the Dean of Student Life at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and serves as Emeritus Director for the United Way of Tompkins County.

Paul J. Salerno ’76 from Franklin Square, NY will serve on the Advancement Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Finance & Administration Committee. Mr. Salerno is managing partner of the Melville, NY office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), where he also leads the Private Company Services practice. Mr. Salerno has been with PwC since 1984 and has 34 years of experience in public accounting. Mr. Salerno is an active volunteer, as well as serving as a board member for a number of nonprofit organizations. Until his election to the Board, he served on the Advisory Board of the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, and was also honored with the Outstanding Alumnus Award at the 2011 President’s Gala. Mr. Salerno’s wife, Angela M.A. ’84, is also a graduate of Adelphi.

William Tenet ’75, M.D., FACC from Manhasset, NY will serve on the Advancement Committee and the Finance & Administration Committee. Dr. Tenet is a cardiologist and associate director of cardiovascular medicine, Lenox Hill Hospital. He is also clinical associate professor of medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, in addition to his role as CEO of Cardiovascular Associates of New York. Dr. Tenet was named one of 2009’s Best Doctors by New York Magazine.
