19 July ’07 (aabykk) - From Gnomes through Classic Love to Flying Dragons, anything goes at the Live Online Auction Art of the 19th Century, Modern Art and Post War to be held by art.auctions by Ketterer Kunst. On 4 August 2007, the above exciting works and more by internationally acclaimed artists will be sold from 4 pm Central European Summer Time - and reasonably priced, too. Nearly 200 objects will be auction online for less than € 1000 each.

The “Affordable Prices for Great Names” concept has met with an enormous response from private individuals as well as art dealers. Young collectors in particular, who have strong affinities with art yet are restricted to limited budgets, are making lucky finds here.

The very enticing prices are sure to lure many bidders from Germany and abroad this time, too. Besides a few works by 19th-century masters, including two oil paintings by Rudolf Höckner and Oskar Leu, the auction is featuring a stunning array of modern and contemporary art by such luminaries as: Horst Antes, Christo, Erich Heckel, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Robert Clark Indiana, Horst Janssen, Oskar Kokoschka, Henry Moore, A.R. Penck, Pablo Picasso, Günther Ücker, Victor Vasarely.

A few works, including some by Rupprecht Geiger, René Sintenis and Gerhard Richter et al are slightly more expensive, such as the 1919 Karl Schmidt-Rottluff woodcut “Christus (Kristus) unter den Frauen” [“Christ among the Women”]. Carrying an estimate of € 2300, the work was printed by HAP Grieshaber in 1946. Schmidt-Rottluff wrote to Ernest Rathenau, who drew up the catalogue of his works, that he had made the block for the woodcut in 1919 but had never printed it since the block had been lost and did not turn up again until forty-five years later.
