Once a year, two picturesque German towns, Scheessel (in the Lüneburg Heath region) and Neuhausen ob Eck (near Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg) are transformed into meccas for fans of indie, rock and electronic music. Both towns, the normal populations of which are about 12,000 and 2,500 respectively, accommodate a further 70,000, resp. 55,000, "neighbours" in caravans and tents over a long weekend.

The infrastructure required to transform verdant pastures into a small town with all the trappings has for some years now been supplied by eps. This covers everything from mobile sanitary facilities to ground protection and barriers. The eps teams on the ground take care of the planning, installation and maintenance of these projects on behalf of FKP Konzertproduktionen GmbH, the organisers of these events.

This year, for the first time, eps also supplied mobile toilets, known as "SPLASH cubicles". A total of 1,226 of these little WC huts were put in place, in addition to the usual mobile sanitary facilities such as 70 toilet containers and WC caravans, 90 urinals attached to mobile fences, 54 shower containers and shower modules, 12 washing units and 13 drinking water points. The eps team installed and maintained the sanitary systems throughout the festivals, which meant laying the water pipes beforehand and ensuring the supply of fresh water and the disposal of effluent during the events. Besides its standard SPLASH products, eps supplied such necessary articles as 33 pallets of toilet paper and quantities of liquid soap.

eps also again provided barriers, access control gates, stage barriers, ground protection, pro-duction vehicles and flag poles. Over 22 km of barriers were used for the Hurricane and Southside events in total: 16,500 m of mobile fencing, 1,870 m of demarcation barriers, 2,550 m of police barriers, 1,400 m of stage barriers with special elements, and 100 access gates. In addition, 5,250 m² of heavy-duty ground protection, eps' "Box Panels", were in-stalled at the most frequented key positions and round the stages.

In 2012 Hurricane and Southside drew the crowds with such bands as "Die Ärzte", "The Cure" and "Blink 182". Visitors to the Southside event were rewarded with unusually hot and dry weather, ideal for the festival, but the campers in the north, who met with somewhat lower temperatures and, on the Sunday, the inevitable "first dust, then mud" weather, also remained in good spirits throughout.
