“The present pandemic situation has got ripple effect into everybody’s life. Life has changed since 2020 various factors like how we work, how we behave, how we think and last but not the least how we are coping up with the New Normal. The working mothers have especially been impacted who are burdened and stressed working round the clock fulfilling professional responsibilities and household duties. Multitasking and playing many roles simultaneously is gradually becoming hectic. Working mothers have to compromise with their exercise and sleep. Managing office and home school (of kids) at same time at same pace is definitely not easy and we need to give some extra care for the caregivers,” said Mr Ashwani Arora, Senior Vice President, Market Xcel Data Matrix Pvt Ltd.

However, if there is one factor where they have scored positively is the time taken to commute. They are now spending only 00.20 hours as compared to 02.10 hours earlier, a reduction of about 85 percent.

About 64% of the survey respondents were aged between 25-35 and the rest were between the age of 36-45 years. The average number of adults in the family of each respondent was 3 and the average number of children for each one of them was 1.5. Around 30% of the respondents reported more household chores since the pandemic has started and about 26% of them said there were more childcare responsibilities. As much as 30% reported mental health issues since 2020 while another 26% said they were acing some kind of physical health issues.

A total of 1,200 working mothers were surveyed in 17 states across the country. The study was conducted online using market Xcel’s proprietary panel Xcel-Online Surveys. Xcel-Online Surveys is an actively managed panel. The panel is recruited and managed in-house by a dedicated team of specialists from online and technology areas.
