Holistic Theatre - Dr Jurij Alschitz presents his latest research to the public

The World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT, research centre of the International Theatre Institute / ITI worldwide has been developing new training methods for over 20 years.
During the long-term research project "The World Theatre Training Library" and the accompanying travels through all continents, artistic director Dr. Jurij Alschitz has created a teaching method based on holistic cognition.
Thanks to the institute's Online Theatre Academy, new teaching methods can now be disseminated worldwide. Access to knowledge is open to all.

With the upcoming courses on theory, methodology and training of Holistic Theatre, practitioners and scientists from all over the world can experience first-hand what the idea of holistic theatre means in practice, and how it gives rise to a completely new understanding of the art of acting.

The Path to a Holistic Theatre

Aristotle writes in his Metaphysics, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
My scientific research closely followed by practical activities in various communities worldwide for many years has given me a unique insight into little-known manifestations of the Theatre in the most remote corners of the world, where “theatre” is given as a name to things we would have never associated it with. As I have grown older, the satisfying perception of world theatre as a single huge living organism in which I am but a small particle, a grain of sand, has grown with me. The happiness of a true artist does not arise from success, glory, or money, but rather from the sense of belonging to the Eternal. (…)
It is only after having deeply felt a sense of belonging to the Theatre as an eternal entity that the actor will play differently. He/she should be regarded as the most important theatrical unit of the Whole, one of the Theatre’s atoms or nano particles. Similarly to quantum physics, this particle bears the sign of the whole Theatre whilst simultaneously being its own Theatre.

The World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT is the appointed research centre of the International Theatre Institute, the World Organisation for the Perfoming Arts and active member of the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts.
It was founded by the artistic director Dr. Jurij Alschitz and programme director Christine Schmalor to establish post-graduate courses for theatre practitioners with the aim to connect training, research and artistic production. Over the years, Dr Jurij Alschitz formed a team of teachers, who works worldwide.
Today, the WTTI works exclusively towards the innovation of theory and practice of theatre training. The Online Theater Academy is the institute's newest programme.
