Polish Energy Provider TAURON approves of Kamstrup's smart metering system

Kamstrup’s radio frequency based smart metering system has shown 100 % hit rate on meter readings securing the energy company with the necessary data.

One of the major Polish energy companies, Tauron, with 4 million electricity metering points tested Kamstrup’s RF system for 14 days in the city of Częstochowa. The requirement was 100 % success rate per day. The system was able to fulfill the customer’s key demands.

Director of TAURON Dystrybucja S.A., Dariusz Jeziorny, says: “We are seeking a cost efficient system which is able to deliver satisfactory meter reading results on a daily basis. And when rolling out a full scale system for all our customers, the performance will be our main demand. With these impressive results from the field test and being familiar with Kamstrup technology, we definitely see Kamstrup system as one of the candidates to be used for a massive rollout.”

Jarosław Woytowicz, Country Sales Manager from Kamstrup Sp. z o.o., explains how RF is able to prevail: “Our Radio Mesh Network operates independently of power lines and is therefore uninfluenced by disturbances in the grid. This is the main reason for our system’s high performance. Power cables are simply a very hard environment for communication signals, and in future the grid will be loaded with the consumption of even more electric devices like electric vehicles and electrically driven heat pumps. A well functioning Smart Grid will require a never failing metering system providing real time-data. The safe and robust system is the wireless system.”

The successful result in Częstochowa is in line with other RF field tests and completed projects around the world.

Kamstrup A/S serves energy companies and utilities with metering solutions for electricity, heat, cooling water and natural gas.
