Smart Grid Partnership between Kamstrup and Powel
Kamstrup A/S and Powel AS has announced a partnership that will enable utilities that are using both the Powel ELIN system and Kamstrup’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to base the integration between the two systems on a standard adaptor. The combined solution will give utilities an efficient meter-to-cash machine and at the same time be a solid foundation on which utilities can build and realize their Smart Grid vision.
Powel ELIN is a vendor-independent system that collects and manages consumption data, alarms and events from virtually any utility meter or submeter using open protocols. Kamstrup’s AMI consists of an open, interoperable head-end system, a high-performance, highly scalable and future-proof wireless communication infrastructure and Smart Meters for electricity, heat, cooling, water and gas.
Lars Lindström, Product Manager at Powel, explains: “For a number of years, we have integrated Powel ELIN with Kamstrup Smart Meters via meter and communication specific adaptors. It is time to move to state-of-the-art integration as both Powel ELIN and Kamstrup’s AMI are interoperable and can easily communicate with each other via web services. Bård Benum, CEO for Powel, adds: “We are recognizing Kamstrup as one of the Smart Metering leaders in many of the markets in which we operate and are sure that the new Smart Grid enabled adaptor will open up significant market opportunities for both companies.”
Lars Bo Kristensen, Division Director at Kamstrup, is looking forward to being able to deliver solutions, where customers can take advantage of the new partnership. Mr. Kristensen says: “Powel is delivering business-critical software and associated services specially designed for energy and technical infrastructure companies and is one of the leading companies within this industry in the Nordics. We are looking forward to do business together with Powel both in the Nordics and in emerging markets in Europe and in the Middle East”.
The adaptor will be available in a “basic version” supporting the meter-to-cash process via integration between Powel ELIN and Kamstrup’s head-end, Kamstrup UtiliDriver®, and in an “extended version” which adds integration with Smart Grid, Distribution Management Systems, SCADA, etc. The “extended version” will take advantage of the push alarm functionality in Kamstrup’s Smart Meters and in Kamstrup UtiliKeeper® used for monitoring and control of secondary substations.
The basic version of the adaptor is scheduled for release in Q4 2012 and the extended version in Q1 2013.
