Kamstrup Expands in Technology and Development

In a time where European competitiveness is under stress, the smart metering provider, Kamstrup, turns up development. On 3 December 2012 the company inaugurates a new wing to house high-skilled engineers and developers.

The Danish minister of European Affairs, Nicolai Wammen, who has green growth as a key issue, will be in charge of the inauguration.

Kamstrup manufactures smart meters and systems for intelligent energy management. And because of the growing demand for the company’s products, Kamstrup has increased the staff with 160 new employees within the last two years.

“We have an ambition of being world leading in our field,” says CEO, Per Asmussen. “An essential prerequisite in that respect is of course to bring the best products to market, and consequently they must be developed by the best engineers. We are able to be competitive because we automate and optimize wherever it is possible, but also because our products contain an extremely amount of technological know-how. This is why we can actually produce electronics in Denmark and sell them in China.”

Kamstrup expands especially within the technology areas, and more than 25 % of the total staff of 840 people are employed in technological development. The new wing shall be a centre of development of energy management software, which is needed for the optimization of the energy supply and the integration of renewable energy sources.

“The whole world is facing increasing challenges with the energy supply, and many regions suffer from water stress. Such crises raise the demand for the kind of solutions that we offer. The global change towards renewable energy requires more intelligent systems to control the energy,” says Per Asmussen.

In December 2011 Kamstrup opened a new factory for smart water meters and presented a record turnover of 158 million Euro.

Kamstrup has own subsidiaries in 20 countries and an export share of 85 %. All of Kamstrup’s products are developed and produced by Kamstrup, and development as well as production is located in Denmark.
