WILKA Schließtechnik GmbH - Now also with an innovative multi-point locking system

02-04-2021 02:30 PM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: WILKA Schließtechnik GmbH

The new WILKA multi-point locks from the 8000 series will be available soon. The range comprises a total of two lock series and the multi-point locks are designed for use in both single and double-leaf escape doors made of aluminium or steel. A third series without a panic function will follow later this year.

The production of multi-point locking systems represents something of a novelty for WILKA, as up to now the supplier has mainly produced high-quality single-point locking systems and innovative cylinder technology. However, on closer inspection, the Velbert-based family business has already been involved in multi-point locking systems for some time, reveals product manager Eldar Halilovic.
"In recent years, we took a closer look at market forecasts. According to these analyses, the market offers considerable opportunities for innovative locking systems. This was reason enough for us to really step up the development of multi-point locks and to present a system that can cover practically all areas of application, thus enabling the customer to really get everything from one source in the truest sense of the word. Of course, the fact that we already had a large part of the production facilities necessary for this in Velbert was a clear advantage," explains Eldar Halilovic. In addition, however, further investments have been made in recent months to increase production efficiency and to keep delivery times short, even at high capacity utilisation.

Practical benefits for manufacturers

The new product line consists, on the one hand, of the 8600 series, a key-operated multi-point locking system with an escape door function, as well as self-locking variants of the 8700 series. With the 8700 series, simply pulling the door shut is sufficient, as active locking is no longer necessary. Furthermore, the multi-point locking system features tamper-proof locking sequence controls in the main lock, which means that no additional release mechanisms for the secondary locks and no special strike plates are required. The issue of retrofitting has also been taken into consideration. Because if the electronic "upgrade" of a door is desired at some point, the multi-point lock of the 8700 series can simply be equipped with an automatic opener. This makes it an attractively priced alternative to a motorised lock. Such an opener allows the motorised, automatic unlocking of the door within seconds, even with access control and a day function if required. Combined with an emergency power buffer, this variant is also suitable for smoke and fire doors.
Both the 8600 series and the 8700 series offer manufacturers many advantages, since, for example, only one lock is required for four different designs, as the escape door side (outward/inward) and the latch (DL/DR) can be set in all escape door functions. Moreover, the 8000 series offers individual usage options, for example through lock cases with uniform milled dimensions.
A rear backset dimension of 15 mm allows flexible use even in narrow profiles. And the new multi-point locks from WILKA are also compatible with the general conditions in neighbouring countries, because the locks can be optionally prepared for Swiss round cylinders.
An integrated tolerance in the striking plate ensures that all deadbolts function reliably even if the door is lowered by up to 5 mm.

A plus in terms of security: higher security classes than standard (up to RC 3) can be achieved thanks to two optional counter-rotating swing bolts in both the key-operated and the self-locking versions.
Of course, it is also possible to fit commercially available knob and e-knob cylinders, such as the WILKA easy 2.0 system. It almost goes without saying that the WILKA multi-point locks of the new 8000 series comply with all relevant standards.
"Our new multi-point locks give metal manufacturers genuine added value for the first time, because they can obtain all the locking and security components they need for the escape door from WILKA. And thanks to features such as the adjustable striking plate or the uniform lock case size, they even require significantly less processing," concludes Eldar Halilovic.
