Press release from: Biotype Diagnostic GmbH

Registered medical doctors, hospitals as well as medical laboratories can now reduce the time consuming diagnosis of dermatomycosis from 4 weeks to a single working day approach and counteract the risk of appearing antimycotic resistances and adverse reactions elicited through broad-spectrum medication.

Dresden, Germany, April 26, 2012 -- Biotype Diagnostic has recently launched its new multiparameter analysis Mentype® MycoDermQS that specifically detects genomic sequences of dermatomycosis causing pathogens. This straight forward test mediates fast and definite genetic evidence of dermatophytes giving raise to promptly initiate a targeted therapy.

The conventional method to identify pathogens consists of a direct microscopical examination and a subsequent cultivation of patient sample e.g. nail, hair, or skin. This procedure is time consuming and cannot always guarantee the accurate identification at the species level. Moreover, expert knowledge and long year experience is required for sound microscopic inspection. To release patients from uncomfortable symptoms in the meantime an unspecific therapy is chosen. However, as clinically proven, broad-spectrum medication bears a high risk to promote pathogen resistance.

In sharp contrast, DNA-based mulitparameter analysis will specifically and simultaneously detect individual genetic structures of dermatophytes in one reaction even for mixed samples. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction detects specific DNA-segments of in total 21 dermatomycosis causing pathogens that can easily be visualized by agarose-gel electrophoresis. This approach rationalises the workflow and cuts down potential error sources, which in return, frees up personnel and economic resources. Above all, the time in which valuable result will be obtained is tremendously reduced and allows an early onset of a specifically targeted therapy.

Because multiparameter analysis provides an exact picture of disease-evoking factors without requiring expert knowledge it can easily be implemented into the daily lab-routine. During analysis the user is supported by internal controls that serve as quality standards and enable a solid diagnosis. On this basis even minimal amounts of specimens will result in an adequate readout. In this light, misinterpretations due to dominant growth of particular species can fully be ruled out. Likewise, the risk for contamination during long-time cultivation is fully diminished.

Mentype® MycoDermQS identifies the most common dermatomycosis causing pathogens in one reaction.

The Biotype Diagnostic GmbH works continuously to develop and deliver unique molecular diagnostic solutions that set new performance and quality standards in clinical research and diagnostic.

New dynamics in monitoring diagnostics in leukemia
New dynamics in monitoring diagnostics in leukemia
Dresden/Germany Diagnosis leukemia and stem cell transplantation The diagnosis "leukemia" for patients means to undergo several stressful therapeutic interventions. If chemotherapy is not effective, stem cell transplantation mostly is the last chance for healing. However, a sudden graft rejection or disease relapse can always occur despite the successful transfer of the hematopoietic stem cells from donor to recipient. Therefore, the regular quantitative assessment of the donor and recipient cell-portion in the blood

A promising method indicates success Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an effective therapy for hematopoietic disorders such as Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) or the Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). However, imminent relapse remains a serious problem. Routinely, monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD) by diseases-specific markers such as FLT3, NPM1, BCR-ABL, AML-ETO and others is performed to signify threatening relapse as early as possible. However, a high number of patients lack
