SCC Announces 2012 Global Supply Chain Excellence Award Winners

Today the Supply Chain Council (SCC, www.supply-chain.org), a global not-for-profit management association, announced the winners of the 2012 Global Supply Chain Excellence Awards at the Global User Meeting in Miami. A panel of expert judges selected the winners in three categories:

- Philip Morris International won the Global Supply Chain Operational Excellence Award.
- Universidade Estadual de Campinas/LALT won the Global Academic Advancement Award.
- SAP won the Global Technology Advancement Award.

In addition, Philip Morris won the Overall Global Supply Chain Excellence Award, which recognizes the single organization that has made the greatest contribution to the supply chain management body of knowledge or practice within the past year.

The Global Operational Excellence Award recognizes an organization that demonstrates excellence in the design, operation or improvement of a supply chain. Philip Morris International (Moorabbin, Victoria, Australia), has manufactured and marketed tobacco products in Australia and New Zealand for 57 years. Over the past three years the company has invested heavily in implementing work methodologies consistent with the SCC Design Chain Operations Reference (DCOR SM) model, Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR®) model, and Customer Chain Operations Reference (CCOR SM) model, as well as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. These efforts have fundamentally changed the company's culture and contributed to dramatic reductions in product development times, superior supply chain performance, and improved financial returns.

The Global Academic Advancement Award recognizes an organization that contributes applied research advancing the supply chain management body of knowledge. Universidade Estadual de Campinas /LALT (Brazil) developed a new model to measure logistics services performance that incorporates people attributes not present in current theoretical models. The research conclusions reinforce the need to measure such attributes along with customers, suppliers and processes in logistics services performance measurement models.

The Global Technology Advancement Award recognizes an organization that develops methodologies or products that enable superior supply chain performance. SAP applications currently support more than 109,000 customers globally. Based on the SCOR model, SAP’s Business Objects Supply Chain Performance Management (SCPM) solution improves end-to-end supply chain visibility, which supports departmental and organizational performance management.

The SCC Supply Chain Excellence Awards encourage the continuous advancement of the supply chain management body of knowledge and the sharing of that knowledge. The SCC awards program recognizes supply chain innovators in three regions annually:

- North and South America (Application deadline: 30 June 2012)
- Asia & Oceania (Application deadline: 30 Sept. 2012)
- Europe, Middle East & Africa(Application deadline: 30 Sept. 2012)

The operational, academic, and technology award winners from each of the three regions compete for the Global Supply Chain Award in each category, as well as the single overall Global Supply Chain Excellence Award. Visit the SCC Supply Chain Excellence Awards website (supply-chain.org/awards) for information on the application process, selection criteria, and project summaries of award winners.
