Chamber to help local employers create hundreds of jobs as Kickstart Intermediary

Alison Henderson, DACC CEO

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce (DACC) have been confirmed under the UK Government scheme as a Kickstart Intermediary. Businesses looking to take on under 30 new employees under the scheme can do so through DACC.
The Scheme, launched earlier this month, is encouraging businesses to provide opportunities for 16 – 24 year olds. Along with support towards the young person’s salary for a six-month period the scheme will also provide financial assistance to help with training.

Over 140 jobs have already been noted with DACC from businesses across the region. In a simple procedure, businesses are asked to let DACC know how many roles they may be looking to create between now and December 2021.
Alison Henderson, DACC CEO said: “We’re hugely encouraged by the level of local demand by employers to support young people. Our research shows that younger workers are disproportionately impacted by covid-related job losses because of the types of role they hold and the sectors that they are in.

By creating new roles which will give stability for six months, combined with a programme of training to give the young person some new skills, we’re hoping to give young people hope for future job prospects.”

“We’ll also be working with partners in the region to support businesses to get support for their own growth, and hopefully that means some of these roles become viable after the initial six month scheme.

Helping businesses to grow, take on new projects and build for the future is in everyone’s interests.”

DACC’s role as intermediary will see it take job specifications and connect those into the local DWP so that job coaches can match up young people with roles that suit their skills. The business will be supported through the recruitment process if need be, and throughout the six months of the job placement. It is likely that young people could be in job placements as early as November 2020.

Any business looking to support a young person into employment should contact DACC direct on kickstart@dundeeandanguschamber.co.uk or by calling 01382 228545
