Press release from: Bizerba GmbH & Co. KG

Balingen, 08. February 2012 – At Fruit Logistica 2012, the leading international meeting point for the fresh fruit industry, in Berlin from 8 - 10 February, Bizerba presented a number of exhibits, including the software-supported CWE checkweigher, the iS 70 control terminal, the GLM-E 20/30 automatic labeller and a broad label portfolio.

A low-price introduction to automatic pricing for fruit and vegetable traders

Here manufacturers and traders will get the perfect introduction to automatic pricing: the GLM-E 20/30 weighs and labels up to 35 packages per minute – and as much as 70 packages without weighing – and is also used in the fruit and vegetable industry. Dieter Conzelmann, Director of Industry Solutions: "We have created a starter device for companies that want to weigh and label their products more efficiently." The labeller uses rolls of labels with a diameter of up to 300 millimetres that require minimum effort to change. This reduces set-up time. Appropriate label layouts can be created using the Bizerba Label Designer (BLD).

The standard equipment features split or closed belts, a ¼ VGA operating panel, a top-labeller, which ensures a high-definition printed image, and a blow applicator. Thanks to its ergonomic design, space can easily be found for the labeller, even within smaller operations. The e-service is particularly efficient: technicians can access the plant via the internet and solve problems, often avoiding expensive on-site visits.

Secure and cost-effective: labels with RFID as an additional function

Increasing networking of suppliers, distribution partners and customers is leading to a continual increase in the complexity of the transport chain. In order to facilitate transparent communication between all those involved and allow rapid identification of products, all data must be linked inseparably with the product. Conzelmann: "RFID will gain more and more importance throughout the next few years in this area."

He explains that the label production factory in Bochum develops technology to make it possible to apply transponders for RFID and RF under the labels. "The customer orders his labels as normal and receives RFID as an additional function on request, without needing a second label."

Quality assurance for industry and trade

Conzelmann is convinced that no company could last any length of time if it were producing underweight or overweight portions: "Under-filling is not only prohibited by law; it also damages the company's image. And even slight over-filling adds up over time to considerable material losses."
The CWE checkweigher prevents packages with incorrect weights from entering circulation. It weighs and classifies up to 400 packages per minute. Pushers remove the package as soon as the weight is found to deviate from the target weight.

Process optimisation in real time: log results direct to a smartphone

The production manager evaluates all of the weight data with the help of the software _statistics.BRAIN and creates graphical reports and long-term statistics that can serve as the basis of decisions regarding the future shaping of the process. The on-site employee intervenes directly in the production process in the event of impermissible deviations.

Data log reports can be saved automatically so that manufacturers can guarantee the retraceability of goods, in accordance with EU directive 178/2002. Conzelmann: "This complete documentation process makes the CWE the ideal quality assurance tool for both industry and trade." The user can choose a date and time for automatic sending of the reports, and they can even be sent directly to a smartphone.

Robust control terminal for harsh conditions

The iS 70 improves ease of use and safety, even in a tough working environment. The surface of the control terminal combines the advantages of tried and tested resistive touch technology with a resistant and thin top glass layer. "The customer has a touch surface that is resistant to chemicals and scratches and that can even be operated using the tip of a knife or when wearing chain gloves," explains Conzelmann.

The terminal is particularly communicative and has an integrated WLAN solution, six USB ports, three Ethernet ports and serial ports. It can be attached to a pedestal, a column or the standard VESA 100 wall bracket.

In-motion scales with interference-free string technology

With the CWL Eco in-motion scales, Bizerba is most certainly meeting the growing demands in terms of intra-logistical processes. Not only does the machine determine weight with its integrated volume measurement, it also features optional programmes such as counting, tolerance checking, series fault recognition and addition. The scales work with interference-free string technology, weighing based on the principle of checking mass instead of weight. The advantage for plant construction and service providers is that they can calibrate the scales without worrying about the location of the machine or different gravitational forces.

A flexible frame, a variety of belt dimensions up to a length of 1,600 millimetres and a comprehensive interface structure guarantee easy integration into existing systems. The CWL Eco has a calibratable data memory for weight, volume and accompanying data and is more communicative than any other scales out there, featuring 12 inputs and outputs, PROFIBUS DP, TCP/IP, serial ports and the Simple Scale protocols DPV0 and DPV1.
