A perfect way to view the diversity and beauty of Switzerland is by train on the GoldenPass Line. One of the most picturesque railways in Switzerland, the GoldenPass Line offers travel experiences with different styles and atmospheres. GoldenPass relies on POWERCELL PDX weighing technology from METTLER TOLEDO to comply with the new center-of-gravity regulations. The POWERCELL PDX load cell network offers the unique ability to see the individual weights of all four corners of a railroad car while it is parked on a scale. Each car and engine is weighed before it is put into service. The scale terminal displays the weight from each of the four corners of the scale. If all four weights are within the balance specifications, then the car or engine can be used on a train. Balancing the variety of railroad cars, such as dining and kitchen cars, has always been a challenge. Thanks to METTLER TOLEDO, the railway line now can be certain that the job is done properly.

Only vehicle scales with the POWERCELL PDX load cell network are capable of providing individual weight readings for each load cell. Other vehicle scales use a summing or junction box to combine the signals from all load cells, limiting the scale terminal to displaying only the total weight value. The POWERCELL PDX load cell network does not use junction boxes. Its load cells are wired together in series using a CAN bus network. Because the network delivers signals from each load cell, the scale terminal can display the total weight or the weight from individual load cells. This feature is very useful in diagnosing the performance of the system. It also makes it easy for GoldenPass Services to check the balance of each railroad car.
