Natural contrasts may have 'smart' things in common
One is a symbol of modern urban life, the other an allegory of tradition and an immaculate natural countryside: the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun' and the town racer smart are two things that could not be any more different from each other at first glance. However, that first glance is quite deceptive - as you will soon find out when looking for something that the popular town car and the equally popular holiday region have in common. At this year's smart times, the official international meeting of all smart drivers in Zell am See, the traditions of Pinzgau and urban lifestyle are meeting once again - after all, opposites attract and having something in common forms a tie.Upholding traditions is something they both do in their own way - without making a show of it. You can find the typically Austrian way of life everywhere in Zell am See and Kaprun. At traditional mountain inns or at spectacular events like 'Pinzgauer Bauernherbst', the farmers' autumn festival - between Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe culture means living everyday life. Despite its conspicuous appearance, the smart is rather 'discrete' on the topic of tradition. But beneath its 'metal clothing', it is hiding lots of history in very little space. As a member of the Daimler car family that is steeped in history, the heart inside the tiny car is that of one of the oldest car makers worldwide. And moreover: the man in charge of the concept and the fashionable design of the town racer is Nicolas Hayek, the inventor of the 'Swatch' - small wonder that car is running like a Swiss clockwork.
Compact, environment-friendly, and a landmark design: with the smart you do not have to go looking for modern features for long. People in the 'Europa-Sportregion' may be living 'behind the mountains' - but in matters of technology, they are floating on top of 'the waves of time'. A perfect infrastructure including an air field and a rail connection, and the generation of clean energy at the mountain reservoirs of Kaprun - nature and technology are in perfect harmony here. At the moment one of the most modern conference centres in Europe, the Ferry Porsche Congress Center, is being built in the town centre of Zell am See. All that adds up to a picture which the smart perfectly fits in, too.
And by the way, the town racer and the natural countryside of Pinzgau have something in common that is very important for drivers. They are both good for your nerves. Since the compact smart makes the nerve-racking quest for a place to park a thing of the past, it is an easy decision to stop and leave the car behind somewhere in the green expanses of Zell and Kaprun. Exploring the picturesque countryside on two wheels or on foot is really pleasurable. You can find absolute relaxation on the championship golf courses, for example. At the tee against the picturesque background of the Alps, your body and soul will take a break from your daily grind. Combining relaxation with modern amenities and traditional values - there are only two who can do that: the smart and the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun'.

Together with Sabine and Frank, she has come to the region from Braunshardt in Germany to spend her holidays on…
Tourism experts are looking forward to the 'castlecamp' at Kaprun from 13th Sept …
It is general practice among the visitors of a 'barcamp' to take home a sticker once the 'unconference' has finished. That way, the participants want to say, 'I was in on that.' The idea is not really new. For decades, travellers have collected that kind of souvenirs of their holiday destinations and stuck them to their suitcases. It's the 'barcamps' themselves that are new. They have only been organized for…

Anyone who has ever been in the audience of a large conference, congress, or seminar, maybe even for several days in a row, knows that phenomenon only too well: there are set schedules to be followed, hours of talks and lots of useless information to be listened to.
