NitroShred – Data Destruction On-Demand
Nitrokey GmbH, based in Teltow near Berlin and specializing in security hardware Made in Germany, now offers data destruction as an on-demand service. The special: Data carriers are sent in and then securely destroyed; no subscription required. Since classic data destruction is unsuitable and too expensive for one or a few data media, on-demand data destruction is the first suitable solution for self-employed persons, startups, small businesses and private individuals.
Nitrokey is thus expanding its product portfolio with additional services. In addition to hardware products such as Nitrokeys and NitroPad, on-demand data destruction is another service available to customers, alongside the existing Business Subscription and Business Fulfillment services.
Whether GDPR or data leaks, whether business or private - there are many reasons for a secure destruction of data media. In order to securely destroy data and thus protect it from unauthorized access by third parties, a simple deletion is often not sufficient. The most secure variant is physical destruction (e.g. shredding). Nitrokey destroys the customer's data media safely and easily. This way, customers remain GDPR-compliant and avoid data leaks, damage to reputation and penalties.
# Transparent And Inexpensive
On demand and at a fixed price, customers receive a professional data destruction service. No subscription, no price inquiry, no minimum volume. Tailor-made for self-employed persons, startups, small businesses and private individuals.
# Secure And GDPR-compliant
Whether hard disks, SSDs, USB sticks, memory cards or mobile phones - all data carriers are mechanically destroyed by shredding in accordance with DIN 66399. The process is carried out under strict security precautions and helps customers to achieve GDPR compliance. Customers receive a certificate of destruction which serves as proof of the data protection-compliant destruction of data media for audits and tests.
# So Simple
1. Customers order at a fixed price in Nitrokey's online shop.
2. Customers receive a shipping label (DHL parcel) from Nitrokey, with which they send the data carriers to Nitrokey (incl. shipment tracking).
3. Nitrokey takes care of the secure destruction of the data media and provides them with a destruction certificate.
# Strong Relevance
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other data protection laws in Germany (e.g. BDSG) place high requirements on the protection of personal data. Business data (e.g. customer data) is also often sensitive and requires confidential handling. In order to protect this data from prying eyes when disposing of data carriers, a secure destruction of the data carriers is necessary. A simple deletion of the data on a data carrier allows a recovery of the data due to the data carrier‘s technical design. Even deleting encrypted data carriers may not be effective under certain circumstances, since, for example, if the hard disk encryption is incomplete, temporary files can be stored unencrypted and can be restored after simple deletion. Only the physical destruction of data carriers gives customers the certainty that the data has actually been irretrievably destroyed according to the current state of technology.
# High Security
The chain of control is maintained throughout. Customers' packages reach Nitrokey with tracking and tracing. The data carriers are then stored in a sealed security container. The collection, transport and final destruction of the data carriers is carried out by a certified service provider in a consistently controlled process.
The destruction of the data media is carried out by the service provider Rhenus Data Office GmbH in accordance with GDPR, BDSG, and DIN 66399. The following protection classes and security levels are applied in accordance with DIN 66399.
Protection class 2: This is suitable for confidential data with high protection requirements, such as information that is restricted to a small group of people.
Nitrokey accepts data carriers from the following storage types:
O - optical data carriers (CDs/DVDs etc.)
T - magnetic data carriers (floppy disks, ID cards etc.)
H - hard drives with magnetic media and SSDs
E - electronic media (USB sticks, SD cards, chip cards, etc.).
The destruction of the data carriers is carried out in accordance with the following security levels, depending on the type of memory. These security levels indicate how large the remaining particles are after shredding. In this case, the security levels mentioned meet the requirements to be suitable for the secure destruction of information of protection class 2 (see above).
Optical media: O-3
Magnetic media: T-4
Hard disks with magnetic media and SSDs: H-4
Electronic media: E-3
The shredded material is fed into the recycling cycle and safely reused.
