Press release from: Warrior Group

/ PR Agency: Michael Burns & Associates
Betty Floyd, chief financial officer of Warrior Group, was recently recognized as the Dallas Business Journal’s ‘CFO of the Year – Community Service’ for her work with the Heart of a Warrior Foundation (HOAW). HOAW was founded by Gail Warrior, owner and CEO of the Warrior Group, to provide summer educational opportunities to children who would not otherwise have access to quality summer programs.

Floyd has been CFO of Warrior Group, a DeSoto-based general contractor that serves public and private commercial construction customers, since 2006 and has been instrumental in guiding the company through both rapid expansion and repositioning in difficult economic conditions. This honor recognizes both Floyd’s professional abilities and her commitment to the North Texas community as demonstrated by her work with the HOAW annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, the foundation’s major fundraiser.

“This year, Betty faced a real challenge to produce a profitable fund raiser in a down financial environment while balancing her duties as CFO of Warrior Group,” said Gail Warrior. “With the support of sponsors, countless volunteers, and Warrior’s support staff, Betty came through and delivered another overwhelmingly successful tournament. Obviously, Betty’s efforts impressed the ‘CFO of the Year’ judges who have recognized her valuable service to our community with this award.”

Floyd contributed countless hours to making the HOAW Celebrity Golf Tournament a success. In response to the challenging economic times, she changed the makeup of the event’s sponsorship base to include more small supporters and placed an even greater emphasis on getting donations to cover every cost of hosting the event. Over the last four years, HOAW’s Celebrity Golf Tournament has raised more than $300,000 for the foundation and attracted over 150 golfers each year. The proceeds of the tournament give less advantaged children the ability to succeed in school by providing a summer program to help them overcome summer learning loss.

“Research has determined that the lack of high-quality activities and educational experiences during the summer months causes students, especially in lower-income households, to fall behind in school,” said Floyd. “Every summer, HOAW sponsors the Young Warrior Summer Learning Program to provide disadvantaged students with hands-on tutoring to help them improve their basic skills in math, science and language. The program also provides enrichment field trips that add to their quality-of-life experiences.”

While dedicated to community causes, Floyd has also been a driving force behind improvements in many facets of the Warrior Group. Her focus on risk management, process improvement and controls enabled Warrior Group to increase in annual revenues by five times within two years of her joining the company. Today, Floyd is focused on the challenges that face Warrior Group, including repositioning the company from a super subcontractor to a general contractor that builds across a number of market segments including healthcare, higher education, K-12 and federal.
