The “Compasso d'Oro” is a highly-reputed industrial design award. In 2011, the Italian lighting manufacturer Luceplan received the award for the lighting series Hope which was developed by Francisco Gomez Paz and Paolo Rizzatto. Luceplan belongs to the Italian manufacturers with a long lasting tradition. The company was founded in 1978 and offers a great variety of modern lights including ceiling fixtures, wall sconce and pendant lights.

Foscarini is another well-known Italian lighting manufacturer and has been awarded for the table lamp Binic (Wallpaper Design Award 2011). This product proves the growing flexibility regarding the usage of materials and the fields of application of lighting design.

The “WAN Interior + Design Lighting Award 2011” in Spain was presented by the magazine World Architecture News and has shown the international popularity of LZF lamps. The lighting manufacturer has been awarded for the “Agatha” light which was designed by Luis Eslava. The “Interior Innovation Award” is one of the well-known design events hosted by the German Design Council. This year’s awards represented the latest lighting design by companies such as “benwirth licht” and “Tobias Grau GmbH” that are focusing more and more on the production of LED lighting. Many lighting manufacturers are concentrating on light-emitting diodes as they offer a lot of advantages and favorable characteristics in shape and size.

The “Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany” is another outstanding award which has already been achieved by the German industrial designer Ingo Maurer in 2010. He is also very famous in the United States and runs a unique showroom in the middle of Manhattan, New York City. Ingo Maurer is specialized in lighting design and contemporary lighting concepts. Some of his works can be seen in well-known design museums and collections. In 2011, he has been awarded for his career by the ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, hosting the Compasso d'Oro Awards).
