First-time study on the German market for workplace safety

First-time study on the German market for workplace safety

For the first time, macrom Marketingresearch & Consult conducted a study on the German market for workplace safety. Additionally to previous surveys on the market for personal protective equipment established in 2005 and conducted in two year intervals since then, macrom Marketinresearch & Consult analyzed the entirety of measures, products and solutions connected to overall protection of employees at their workplaces.
With due respect to the heterogeneity and diversity of the market structure, macrom developed definitions and distinctions of product groups in collaboration with manufacturers, retailers and work safety experts.

As a result, the study covers a total of 14 market segments and 51 product groups with regard to their market volume, development and imports/domestic production ratio. Furthermore, data material on the importance of specific distribution channels and respective target groups was collected.

In 2010, the market volume for overall workplace safety of 4.1 billion Euros in manufacturers’ prices was significantly higher than the PPE market’s. Overall expenses for work safety thus added up to 5.7 billion Euros.

Demand for overall protection had been increasing prior to the economic crisis and, in contrast to the PPE market, was not affected as dramatically in the second half of 2008 and throughout the year of 2009.
Overall protection only suffered slight losses in volume during the crisis as the actual work volume only has marginal effects on the market and solutions are usually long term investments and planned far in advance.

Macrom’s study on the German market for workplace safety features the following market segments:

Trainings
Advisory services
Noise protection
Air
Fall protection
Machine safety
Anti-slip
Warning
Nuclear safety and radiation protection
Traffic safety
Storage
Workplace separation
