eLearners.com Releases New State-by-State Guide to Teacher Certification
For most states, the three main requirements needed for a preliminary or provisional teaching certificate are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a passing score on a state teacher exam and/or a Praxis Series exam and successful completion of an approved teacher training program (ATTP). eLearners.com compiled all of the initial teacher licensure requirements for each state, including whether it only accepts a degree earned from an in-state institution or requires a finger print and/or criminal background check. Requirements can vary by state, which is why the Guide is such a convenient resource; it makes the specific information for each state available in one easy to use online reference. In addition to requirements, the Guide also provides the average starting teacher salary by state, as well as the average teacher salary.
While the new guide offers information about initial licensure, it is important to note that additional criteria may eventually be required to qualify for long-term teaching licensure or for a specialized certificate, such as special education certificate, a vocational certificate or a school administrator certificate.
