Nürburgring, Nordschleife: new electric lap record.
Toyota Motorsport GmbH and rational motion write history with a new best time.
It was an impressive demonstration of what performance the e-mobility sector is capable of delivering today: rational motion integrated an electric high-performance powertrain into a Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) race car – with peak motor power at 280kW and 260 kph top speed completely emissions free new standards were set on the challenging Nordschleife of Nürburgring on 29 August 2011: 7 minutes, 47.794 seconds. New lap record for an electrically powered vehicle.
The previous record that stood at 9 minutes, 1.338 seconds on the 20.8-kilometre section of the famous and infamous Nordschleife of Nürburgring was broken most convincingly. At the wheel of his electrically-powered, twin-motor TMG EV P001, Jochen Krumbach beat the previous lap record hands down – likewise delighting TMG and its partner rational motion, the team responsible for the integration of the electric powertrain, traction battery and the control strategies.
For TMG, the successful record attempt is an exciting achievement and excellent publicity for the market launch of their electric powertrain for motorsport applications, which is scheduled for 2012. For all the designers and engineers involved, this outstanding lap record on one of the world’s most challenging circuits for drivers has delivered valuable information and benchmarks on the behaviour of the TMG-EV powertrain under extreme conditions – and clearly highlights the quality of the work achieved to date.
