Frankenmuth River Place Shops Host Colonial Encampment
Frankenmuth, MI – July 23-24, 2011 – The British are coming to Frankenmuth’s River Place Shops! And so are the French and Americans. It’s all part of the Cass River Colonial Encampment taking place July 23-24 on the grounds of the spacious outdoor Frankenmuth mall. Some 200 actors will recreate Revolutionary War battles with historic accuracy, complete with booming cannons, muskets firing and yells of victory… and defeat.“We have a quarter mile of beautiful Cass River frontage and sloping banks around our historic wooden covered bridge area which makes for perfect campsites for this event,” said Michael Zehnder, General Manager of the Frankenmuth River Place Shops complex. “Against this ideal backdrop, families can spend a day witnessing our national heritage up close and personal. They can step back in time and view four staged battles taking place Saturday and Sunday. We think this is a great learning opportunity for youngsters of all ages. And they’ll have tons of fun in the process.”
During the two-day event, guests are invited to experience 18th century colonial America, including military camps, tactical battles, drill and troop inspection, flag ceremonies, drum & fife concerts, Irish & folk song concerts, musket firing, Revolutionary War fashion shows, a knife and hawk throw competition, and a colonial tea party. Visitors can also shop the historical vendors at more than 30 tent and camp sites. This is a free family event.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information and photos of previous encampments, please visit the Frankenmuth River Place website at: http://frankenmuthriverplace.com/rp-events/cass-river-encampment/
