Press release from: Frankenmuth River Place

Frankenmuth, MI –– Oct. 12, 2011 - Frankenmuth’s River Place Shops are celebrating all things Halloween Oct. 15-16 and Oct. 22-23, 2011 with “Scarecrow Festival 2011.” It’s a two-weekend event featuring all types of festive fall fun. Events and contests will be held both Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Each of the businesses throughout Frankenmuth has been busy making special theme scarecrows that will be on display. Visitors are encouraged to stop by each of the shops to view the homemade scarecrows and vote on their favorites.

The pumpkin, everyone’s favorite seasonal squash, will be the star of several activities including Pumpkin Bowling and Pumpkin Painting. One of the highlights of the weekend is the “Pumpkin Trebuchet.” A type of medieval contraption, this device is used to catapult pumpkins. Children are invited to pick out their own individual pumpkin to be placed into the machine’s sling and launched more than 50 yards in hopes of hitting the target. Also on display will be the “Personality Pumpkins” – a series of unique pumpkins decorated by the 3rd and 4th grade students of Frankenmuth’s List Elementary and St. Lorenz.

“The Scarecrow Festival is guaranteed to delight the whole family,” said Michael Zehnder, General Manager of the Frankenmuth River Place Shops. “Everything we do here is intended to be inclusive. There are plenty of kid-friendly events like face painting, a children’s costume parade, inflatables and trick-or-treating. We also offer a straw bale maze and ‘The Spooktacular Comedy Show.’ It will be four days of fun for the entire family.”

Even dogs celebrate with a pet costume parade, Best Pet Costume Contest and pet trick-or-treating. These canine events, as well as a series of Weiner Dog Races, are hosted by WIOG 102.5 FM. There’s no cost to register for this event, all dogs are welcome and a number of great prizes are available to the winners.
