International Yoga Day 2019 Celebrations at JMA Pilani Rajasthan

The school draws inspiration from the quote of one of the most respected authority on Yoga Sri BKS Iyengar “What does the regular practice of yoga do? Yoga allows you to rediscover a sense of wholeness in your life, where you do not feel like you are constantly trying to fit broken pieces together.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word 'yoga' derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. In 2014 United Nations declared 21 June every year as International Yoga Day thanks to the initiative of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The theme for this year is Yoga for Climate Action. By building ethics, refining behavior, providing a sense of calm, shaping physically fit and able bodies, yoga is bound to facilitate every individual to work towards solving climate change which is undoubtedly the biggest bane that faces our generation.

Defining Yoga, the Bhagavad Gita says: When the mind, restrained by the practice of yoga, attains to quietude and when seeing self by the self, one is satisfied in one's own self, the individual feels that infinite bliss can be grasped by the intellect, transcending the senses and established therein, the individual never moves from reality …. Let that be known by the name of yoga, the severance from union with pain.

According to Swiss Philosopher Henri Frederic Amiel, Music is harmony, harmony is perfection, perfection is our dream, and our dream is heaven. June 21 is observed as the World Music Day and the legacy is said to have originated in France with Fete de la Musique, a music festival that began in 1982 due to the initiatives by Jack Lang, the French Minister of Culture. However, it is said that the American musician Joel Cohen had put the idea in 1976 itself. Both Yoga and Music have a lot to do with triveni sangam and triple point equilibrium of Mind Body and Soul and the world at large is fortunate that both days are being celebrated together on 21 Jun 2019 which also happens to be Summer Solstice.

Smt. Recently held District Level Yoga Championship at Jhunjhunu had Vatsal of Class V JMA Pilani winning silver medal in the age group 8-10 years. Also Annu of class VI won gold medal for age group below 12 at Asian yoga championship held at Amritsar.

JMA has a rich tradition of observing days of national and international importance on a regular basis. JMA Pilani organized a colourful function in the school play ground to celebrate Yoga day and music day. Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan gave an overview of the Yoga, music and significance of the day. Two experts deputed by L.N. Birla Naturopathy & Yoga Kendra anchored the yoga sessions in which Principal, teachers and staff enthusiastically participated in performing various asanas. The NCC Cadets of the school led by Officer Vikas Sharma also participated in the Yoga day celebrations held at Birla Yoga Kendra.
